The longest journey starts with the first step!

Weighed in at 106 kg today so really need to tackle weight issue as classed as obese - BMI calculator recommends losing 37 kg - that's almost the weight of the 2 suitcases we took on our holiday last week. Have set a target to lose 2 kg a week over the next 19 weeks so here goes. Would be ashamed to post a photo of this stage as it would be too frightening! Here goes anyway!

Make sure your target is achievable (sorry, I simply can't use your name!) or you will lose heart quickly. When people (who haven't tried weight loss regimes before) start out, they often lose quite a bit the first week, but on a sensible eating plan most people drop to a steady 1-2lb per week. This is healthy and sustainable.

I'm sure Admin will give you all the Newbie advice for people just starting on this forum. I hope you succeed and will look forward to hearing how you get on. But choose a new name - how about ALotToLose??? Good luck on your journey. x

Thanks for the post TT - I appreciate it. I chose the name specifically as motivation to myself so that if I ever feel like falling off the wagon it reminds me of what I need to do and why I am here. I will choose a new name when I have achieved my mid term target.

I agree on the name change - it could become an impediment to attaining goals

Ok I'll think about that - will need to get on the iMac, can't do it on the iPad . Any suggestions? TrimTeach maybe? 😊

Hello FatMan03071958 and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺ I was also obese so can understand how you feel, but please, there is nothing to be ashamed about. There is no judgment here.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's really important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for.☺

Also it's important to not be in too much of a hurry, I think 2kg a week is a little unrealistic, NHS guidelines suggest 1-2lbs or just under one kilo per week. It's nigh on impossible to lose fat any faster. What you may have seen people do is lose 'weight' which includes fluid and muscle mass. 😕Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺ please note Monday is full so another day would be preferable.

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes

Anna

Ps I agree with Hidden about your name!

Hi Anna, may I have a newbie badge please ! I have taken a 'before picture' as well again because when it gets tough and I may start to wilt I want something to shock me back into action.

I'll sort your badge straight away ☺ I prefer to use the carrot rather than the stick for motivation, thoughts of being fitter, and enjoying life ☺

Have a read of the links and please ask if you have any questions ☺

Hi. 2kg is 4.4 lb. I believe that it wouldn't be safe to lose weight that fast. People tell me I have lost weight quickly but never lost more than a stone in a month which is 14 lb shared by 4 weeks = 3.5lb a week. In fact I lost 9 more than that in first 2 weeks but then usually 2lb a week. I think if you hope to lose 2kg a week you will be disappointed. Why not aim to lose a Kg a week for a while and see how you go. Don't starve yourself, it is not worth it as most people that do that only put the weight back on when they start eating more normally. Good luck 🤞
