Hi. Sorry to hear you are struggling after being put on medication. Is there any alternative your doctor can give you? If not will you have to take in less calories in order to lose weight? It's a shame as it isn't your fault. Hope you get it sorted

Hi gilly67 - I don't know if you have seen the Welcome Newbies pinned post, but I would certainly start there as it will give you a really good intro to this forum and the resources available. Most of us find the forum community really friendly and helpful and I hope you will too.

Hi and welcome, Gilly :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news

Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey

I was on similar medication and put on two stones. Apart from an increased appetite I was so sedated that I had no energy to exercise. I have since moved to another type of medication and while still overweight have managed to lose 1.5 stones with the help of the GP practice nurse. I can only suggest trying to eat bulky low calorie food and wish you well.

Hi gilly67

Most people on Olanzepine do gain weight because it increases your appetite. There are other drugs in the same group which you might want to discuss with your doctor. Whatever you do, do not stop your medication unless under medical guidance. I have met many people who have had the same problem you are experiencing. There is no easy answer because dieting will be doubly hard for you. The same principles apply to you as all of us, Eat Less, Move More. When you get the insatiable desire to eat try to fill up with low calorie fruit, vegetables and soups. Make sure you have these to hand. If you can increase your activity with walking and gentle exercise, these have other physical and mental health benefits. I know this is easier said than done and I really feel for you. I was put on a different medication last year and put on a stone and a half. Take care. Daisy
