My name is Patrick I want to lose weight but I don't know where to start to be honest I do not eat excessively....I do not know why I am overweight.

Welcome to the weight loss forum Patrick.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or if your on a mobile at the bottom. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start along with a photo so you can see the changes and it can be motivating on days when the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh-ins so why not come and join us. You can find them posted in the Events section on the right on the Home page. Just click on the post and state your starting weight together with any loss, gain or maintain for the week.

To get the best from the forum be active, share experiences, tips and recipes. Read some of the posts in the Topic section they are good inspiration and getting us motivated.

To join a group for exercise I would try my local authority site (normally a .gov.uk one) and search for "Walking for Health" or something like that. There are likely to be led walks catering for different levels of mobility but if the times for those are not convenient there may be suggested routes for you to follow (though you would need to find others who would like to join you). Are you a member of any organisation or social grouping which isn't about exercise but where you could ask if anyone would like to join you?

Hi Patrick I just joined a few weeks ago, although I joined the forum about 4 years ago I only had the nerve recently to start writing posts. I'm following the 12 week plan and have lost weight, but my downfall is I need to be more active. I hate gyms. I walk a lot but not enough. I recently started changing my journey to and from work which involves more walking. I need to do more exercise hopefully with someone else so we can encourage each other.
