After not taking in enough calories yesterday, guess what, I pigged out today and have clocked up 1400 of the rassin' frassin' varmints. Oh, b.....otheration, she politely exclaimed.

My mood is as up and down as my yo-yo calorie journey.

Back to the baby leaf salad again tomorrow... Oh yum. Can't wait.

1400 calories of what?

Oh bless you! I feel your frustration, I really do and I'm sure every single member on here also feels it because, you've guessed it, we've all been there! :)

Have you checked with the BMI calculator for your own personal calories allowance? 1400 seems quite low to me, I am allowed slightly more than that according to the NHS BMI calculator and I'm 5 lbs away from a healthy BMI! You may not be consuming enough, I know when I first started here I was eating about 1600 - 1800 AT LEAST a day! And I was happily losing on that amount (how I miss those days... :( ), Please check the NHS calculator for your correct calorie allowance, it sounds as though you're consuming too few, which would explain why you're binging. :)

Thanks for your kind words and encouragement Sazkia! I think my problem lies with the 'myfitnesspal' website. It is there that I have been advised to stick to 1200 cals per day! Strangely the NHS weightloss plan gives two suggestions. One when you have entered your details to check your BMI, and on the 12 week plan sheets it gives a blanket figure for males and females. The BMI calculator page suggests between 1567 - 2015 (Oooo, lovely!) and the 12 week plan sheets say 1400 per day. Still rather nice, and easier to stick to than 1200, especially considering that I do exercise daily.

Impatient ol' me though, wants to shed my excess weight as quickly as possible so was gunning for the 1200 limit. It ain't working! I'm miserable half the time because I keep exceeding that limit. I guess I need to learn to be more patient and lose the weight over a longer period. Thanks again Sazkia.

The mfp calorie allowance changes depending on what you set it to, if you set it to lose 2lb a week it gives you the lowest, if you set it to 1lb or 1/2 lb a week it would give you more, but you've already worked out what would work better for you 😀 Would be lovely to lose weight quicker but youre more likely to stick at it if you can eat enough to keep you satisfied 😀

Well I'm glad to see you've worked that out! ;) All you can do is try and I really think you should eat higher cal and settle to lose weight slowly...not only is it easier but it is also more likely to work long term too. :D

Just to second what Hidden is saying battlethebulge 😕 Please check your bmi and target calories. 1400 is quite low 😕

Thanks Anna, as I've already replied to Sazkia I was picking the lowest calorie allowance given so far, but as I don't seem able to stick to 1200 I'll try the 1400 advised by the NHS 12 week plan sheets, and try to be a bit more patient about the rate at which I shed weight. Thanks again for your input. It's so helpful having a place to air one's concerns, disappointments and yes, elation as well!

Nothing wrong with using MFP as well, it got me through my weight loss, and then through 2 years of maintenance... BUT don't be in a hurry, the slower the loss the more likely the body (and the mind ) adapt, and the more likely you'll keep the weight off. It is true! My final advice is , adjust your MFP profile every half stone or so, and when you're within your final 10 lbs , stop eating back the exercise calories. Good luck!

Thanks for that Ellie. I wanted to make myself some new outfits for the summer, in a smaller size! Maybe just put those on hold for a bit.....

If you aim at 1-2 lbs a week and see how it goes. You may well be a size smaller by summer. My loss took nearly a year altogether, 32 lbs and approx 2 sizes. It all depends on our build and how overweight we are to start with.

Hi, Ummm I'm joining you Battle tomorrow, re green lettuce salad,tomatoe,tinned red salad,thanks for your text ..its so complicated to overcome ...its the chicken before the egg conundrum.....starve......too many carbs equals emotional roller-costa (ie, yi yo yoing emotions, have a good Sunday and salad.😊..✌ ..🎈

I used, like you, to try and keep my calories aa low as possible but from reading on here found that it's counterproductive. I'd suggest ignoring what MFP says and going for about the middle of the range that the BMI calculator says.

If you eat a bit more you will be healthier, happier and still lose weight. Give it a go!

Wow, that's a weighty read lucigret (no pun intended!) So, stop counting calories and watching fat content and reduce carbs and eat higher fat content foods etc. Interestingly, that mirrors pretty well what Dr. Michael Mosley recommends in his 8-week blood sugar diet, which is said to banish type 2 diabetes.

yes it is a weighty read. Moreless sent me this last week as she didn't think I was eating enough, I have been very tired. I should have said the other link is Friday weigh in and our conversation is a long way down. What she has explained to me is that it doesn't have to take a lot to up your calories. It's not necessarily upping the volume of food, it's the calorific value of food, such as good fats, olive oil, coconut oil, butter, avocado, salmon, mackerel, nuts etc. I shall keep counting my calories but I will go back to using butter for my toast, not margarine, eat more nuts, eat more fish, have less potatoes, pasta and rice and use brown where I can. I will stick to my white bread that I make, I only have 1 slice a day. I'm not brave enough to stop calorie counting yet. This way works for me and I respect that other ways work for other people. It's all a bit of a minefield until you understand it better I think. That's what I love about this forum, there are so many people that are happy to give advice for us to try. Good luck.
