Newbie here but recently completed NHS 12 week weight loss plan...

I’m a newbie, in so much as this is my first proper post here, but I recently finished the NHS 12 week weight loss program. I have been reading posts on the forum ever since I started the programme and have found them really motivating and helpful. The reason I didn’t post at the beginning of the programme is because I didn’t think I would make it through day one or week one, let alone to the end of week 12!!!

I have been completely delighted with my weight loss and with my new healthier, more active lifestyle. I have never managed to lose weight or control my weight at all before. I was not quite overweight according to the NHS

BMI calculator, but was just a few pounds away from it, and gaining! I had gained around two stone in the last few years and was still getting bigger at an alarming rate.

I was finally determined that I had to get my eating and lifestyle under control and the NHS 12 week plan seemed to offer a sensible approach. I've found this forum really useful for advice and just seeing what others have achieved is so motivating.

I was amazed that, after getting used to calorie counting in the first few weeks, the plan was really manageable - I was able to stick to 1400 calories most days, still enjoy eating lots of may favourite things and really wasn't feeling hungry. And I began to record a steady weight loss of around 1.5 lbs a week, which made me so happy!

I am delighted that over the 12 weeks I lost a total of 1 stone 6lbs :)

(Perhaps I might get my one stone badge...?)

My initial aim had initially been to lose 10 lbs, then one stone. I am now motivated to continue with this and get back to my ideal weight which will mean an overall weight loss of 2 stone... I also hope to get to the stage where healthier eating (I'm getting there...) and more exercise (I'm not yet there!) are integral to my daily routine.

Thank you Tiggerr :) Like you I've not been thinking of this as a 'diet' but as a lifestyle change and the beginning of better eating and exercising habits. I hope other people are motivated by my weight loss to date because honestly if someone who loves pasta, butter, bread, cheese and roast potatoes and HATES exercise, the gym and sports as much as I do can do this literally everyone can ;)

Fantastic result. I too am a great fan of the nhs 12 week plan. It works. I also checked out British Heart Foundation dietary advice on their free online advice on reducing cholesterol by diet and exercise. This fits perfectly with the nhs advice and the 12 week plan. My weight and cholesterol levels are now perfectly normal. Hope this helps to further motivate you - if further motivation is needed :) Great start to the new year.
