Hi and welcome Liz. You've arrived at a useful site full of very friendly and helpful people.

Later one of the admins will post much more useful information for you to consider. One of the items they may mention is the NHS 12 week weight loss plan which a number of people here are following. I've found it invaluable but it doesn't mean there aren't other options.

I have problems with my spine and the exercise I do has been derived from my specialist and physio, so because of your knee it might be worthwhile having a chat with your doctor.

Good luck!

Hi Liz I too need to lose weight! I have been diagnosed with the very early signs of m myeloma, no treatment at this stage. I have RA and fibro along with Dyboisis which is a gut bowel issue and it seems to stop me from losing weight. Have you thought of swimming and a low carb diet. 😀

hi Liz and welcome! I have major issues with my feet and legs so it is so difficult for me to exercise. I am a young 50 yr old woman who is obese as well. I am trying to lose weight for my health and my new granddaughter. I recommend talking to your doctor before trying any exercise but I also think swimming is the way to go. It is only my opinion, so take it for what its worth. anyway, I also recommend to eat lots of veggies, little meat unless it is chicken or fish, some fruit and a little grain. that is what I have taken from all the diets I have seen. I have a quote from somewhere that I use.. "nothing tastes as good as thin feels".. but this is the forum to be in. there are some wonderful people here that will give your their experience with anything you have questions on. Chin up! we can do this!!

Welcome Liz, this forum will provide lots of help and encouragement, hints and tips, and perhaps most of all motivation. I think we are all here to change lifestyles to ensure that whatever we lose is sustainable. No quick fixes but steady weight loss.

I have health issues, many people do, and make sure that everything I put in my mouth is good for me ( I have had three chocolates, two glasses of wine and one glass of champagne in the last three months - and I now don't want sweet things as my tastes have changed). Food made from ingredients and processed as little as possible, tons of veg, a little fruit and nuts, use good oils for cooking and steal away from sunflower/corn oil.

I think nothing beats your own reading about food that is good for you and what to avoid. You will get lots from this forum, I then follow links that others post and look at reviews of books by particular chefs who seem to me to talk sense about food. Dale Pinnock is great, I also like Jamie Oliver's latest Superfood books and The Hairy Bikers have some good recipes.

Counting calories using an app such as MyFitnessPal is great.

Whatever you decide to do, and however you decide to do it, enjoy your journey, I wish you well.

Hi and welcome, Liz :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you :)

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news :)

Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate :)

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too :)

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)
