Is there any hope?

hi

Iv got and had a good 3 stone to lose for the whole of my adult life. I manage to lose 2 stone after the birth of my second child, through bootcamp and their clean eating programme, but was not able to maintain it over the christmas and then the 2 years that followed, and i hVe now put on 1.5 stone of what i lost.

I seem to have absolutely no willpower, i know what i should or shouldnt eat but its like my head and mouth and hands dont communicate! I have such an emotional attatchment to food, i have my sisters wedding this August and was hoping to lose the weight by then, but now im doubting if i ever will.

I know i am addicted to sugar but i find it so difficult in this modern lifestyle to cut it out completely and constantly having to deny myself everything. I am weak. I enjoy exercise and do some every day but completely undo t with my nutrition. Iv tried sw but i find constantly thinking about syns and choices so overwhelming i go off track, and iv started to meal plan but almost always meals never go to plan with the kids and things coming up. I need to find strength and willpower!

Stop panicking nowillpowerever, you have found us on this forum and we are here to support you. You CAN do this. You WILL go to your sister's wedding looking amazing if you just believe in yourself and that you can do it. Admin will give you advice on how to use tennis forum and where to look for tips and advice.

You don't have to give up sugar completely and you can still have treats, but you will need to devote some time to getting to grips with calorie conten t of foods and so on.

You deserve this, look on it as me-time, checking out apps like MyFitnessPal and the 12 week plan on the NHS site. You are worth it, as the advert says.

Good luck, we are all here for you any time. 😄

I think that most of us on this forum have lost weight and then put it back on again and we all have a problem with our relationship to certain foods etc. So, welcome aboard :-)

Obviously you know what is causing you to put on the weight and even though it is difficult to do so you need to try and curb that sugar addiction.

If you follow the 12 week plan, as suggested on this forum and stick to it you will gradually learn to do what works for you.

The first thing that shocked me was portion size. I reckon I overestimated portion sizes by at least 50%. Now I weigh everything and calorie count each day.

I would suggest you start to plan your meals for the week and pre-weigh your portions, work out how many calories you need per day to lose weight safely and stick to that, write everything down that passes your lips including drinks, alcohol etc and track your calorie intake. To lose weight you need a caloric deficit it is that simple. Good luck !

thats the thing i struggle alot with is mindless eating, and forgetting to write things down, and i find it such a chore to remember and then i feel guilty and dont write thjngs down! man i need to get a grip. i would love for food one day to not be so controlling over my life!

Try sugar free gum, chew it when you are in the kitchen preparing food, or clearing up kids' meals etc, any time when there is a danger of you putting something in your mouth without thinking.

And keep repeating this mantra- I eat to live, I don't live to eat!! 😊

Yes it is difficult but it will get better! I used to be thinking about food as soon as I woke up but that has improved a lot.

Like TT has said avoid snacking if you can. Eat enough at each meal time too so you don't panic eat :-) I am working towards a 16:8 way, I try not to eat anything after dinner, usually about 7pm, until around mid day the next day so consuming my calories within a 8 hour window. I am doing OK with it too and really only needing two meals a day.

Make sure you drink enough water too.

I used to love fairly sweet things but never ate a lot in general. I used to have a lot of tea with 2 sugars and was advised to gradually swap this by using sweeteners with no calories in. I looked them up and gradually had my tea with this in and dropped it down gradually. When I done this I ended up losing 3 stone without even doing anything other than this.

Hi and welcome nwpe :)

Where there's life, there's hope! The key to success is planning, so start one meal at a time, then a day, then a week, then a month, then a lifetime. If you have a freezer, use it. Cook in bulk and freeze the extra, that way, when you run out of time, energy or inclination, there's a healthy meal all ready to be zapped in the microwave :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you :)

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news :)

Have a look at the 12 week plan, as many people have been successful following it. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate :)

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too :)

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hello, I realise sympathise, because I have gone through much the same as you in the past. I dread to think about the amount of sugar I have consumed at times, and know how hard it can be to resist it.

All I can say is that, if you follow the healthy eating advice on this site, and stick to it, you will lose weight. In fact you can lose a significant amount by August. Why not set yourself a realistic target of how much you want to lose by 1st August - say 2 stone? - book out a day for wedding outfit shopping around your target date, and use that to really focus your mind on what you need to do to get there.

There are various tactics for managing a love of sugar - many people swear by going low-carb/no carb as they find it eliminates cravings, others like calorie counting so they can allow themselves a little something sweet every day and still lose weight. It's a matter of experimenting to see which suits you best and which one you can most easily stick to. I find that I do better by avoiding sweets/chocolates/ice cream etc 90% of the time. Although I do calorie count, and I do include bread and potatoes in my diet, in small portions, because I like them so much. I've got my weight down from 11 stones 4lbs to 8st 11lbs this way, and maintain reasonably successfully, with the occasional blip when life gets in the way.

The other thing to remember is that you've lost it before, so you can do it again.

Best of luck!
