Determined

I losted 6 stones and 2llbs a few years ago and then decided to stop smoking and put 3 of the 6 stones back on. I feel great that I've stopped smoking and I knew it was important to do that.

I have been trying to get back on track for the past 2 years in terms of my weight loss. I lose it and then gain it again and it was starting to get me down.

I have recently decided that I need to be more determined in terms of getting more active my diet is healthy most days I just need the support from others in the same boat as me.

Sometimes I feel like I'm isolated and being judged because of my weight. It would be useful and helpful to chat to other people.

In addition I joined this forum 3 years ago but never had the courage to post anything until today.

Thanks for reading

Hi Jayzee, I'm delighted that you've come out to 'play' at last :)

Well done for giving up the cigs, I did the same, when I started here and it's amazing how much better we feel for it :)

I may be teaching my Granny to suck eggs here, but I'm going to give you all the 'newbie' info, just in case :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you :)

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news :)

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate :)

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too :)

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hi Jayzee, welcome back and well done for posting. I'm sure one of the admins will post a lot of useful information shortly, including mentioning the NHS 12 week plan, which I can personally recommend.

Don't fret about people judging you. How many people have the strength to lose 6 stone and give up smoking, they are incredibly difficult things to do. You've put weight on since smoking... for a lot of people that's a given, including my partner who gave up after 50+ years of smoking. We knew it would happen, now she's dealing with it.

As for the isolation... well you're here now and the support that each person here provides for others ensures that we should never feel that way.

Good luck!

Well done for taking the plunge and posting. Doubt you will find anyone on here passing judgement - just encouragement, encouragement, encouragement.

Huge respect for giving up smoking. I have never smoked but certainly seen the struggle of those around me who have needed to quit. Than has got to be the biggest hurdle, and you didn't put all the weight back on so pat yourself on the back and look forward to an amazing journey.

Well done and welcome to the fantastic world of posting, encouragement and useful advice is all you can expect on here 😊

Brilliant on the giving up smoking, I did some years ago and definitely know about the extra weight 😱 it takes time but it can and does come off 😆

Good luck on your journey xx

Well done for taking the plunge and introducing yourself! And huge well done for stopping smoking too - its so hard isnt it. I stopped 13 years ago, and I too put on weight (though I was pregnant so difficult so separate out the 2 weight gains!!!). I feel the will power required to stop smoking is way more than weight loss - every day that you don't smoke you are proving to yourself that you have an incredible amount of willpower and determination. Huge respect to you. I wish you all the best on your weight loss journey, and I do hope you aren't feeling so isolated now you are joining in with things here.

I don't what I was worried about. I've had some really lovely responses. I totally agree with you about the willpower to stop smoking is

much greater than weight loss.

Good luck with your journey.

I put a stone on after giving up smoking and stalked this site for weeks before posting. I'm finding this site really helpful and absolutely non-judgemental. We have all been there and there is loads of encouragement on here to get back to a healthy BMI. Good luck and look forward to your posts. xx
