Swimming

I started swimming 3 times a week, 4weeks ago to build up the strength in arm after shoulder surgery, I'm only allowed to do breast stroke and am thoroughly enjoying these half-hour sessions. But a friend is telling me to increase the time or number of sessions, I'm worried that by doing more I will overdo it or become bored. I don't want to be dragging myself to the pool.

Any advice would be welcome, thanks in advance x

That sounds like loads of swimming. I wouldn't say you need to go any more than that. If you feel you need more exercise then maybe vary it with walking or something else weight bearing. Good luck

Why are you concerning yourself with what your friend is advising, when it's your exercise routine and should be all about you? If you're doing what feels right and enjoyable for you, then you just stick to it!

I love running, but I'm happy to poodle along at my own very slow pace and have no interest in running races, or joining clubs, which is what appeals to other runners.

We each of us have to do what we enjoy and what is going to be sustainable. You have fun doing your breaststroke, for 1/2 an hour, 3 x week and never mind what anyone else says, however well-intentioned :)

moreless you always give such good advice, I love your attitude😀

I once did a legs bums and tums class, and couldn't walk the next day but someone said "your body just needs to get used to it! Keep going!" so I did. Day after day I went to the gym, struggled with walking and running, felt like crying getting on and off the bike and despite trying and trying my legs continued to hurt. A week and a half later I gave myself a two day break: my legs felt amazing.

My point is, from the outside people can be like "more is better, do more" but they don't know what they're talking about! Sometimes enough is actually enough and we don't have to push ourselves to a point where we break.

Well done you with your swimming! :) just do what's right for you.

Thank you ladies, I'm beginning to question this friendship, this is not the first time she's offered 'advice' or completely slated everything I'm doing. Think it's time to distance myself xx

Some people can't help but meddle Hidden , do what is right for you, if that means putting a little distance between you and your friend, then do it. Maybe she is really in awe of you and your will power and wishes she was more like you😀

That sounds like a good amount of swimming. Maybe in a few months, you might want to do more or try a new activity like Aquafit if your pool has it to mix things up a bit, but at the moment you are doing great. And the last thing you want to do is overdo it and damage your healing shoulder.
