Whilst I am delighted by the favourable calorie value of closed cup mushrooms, I am fed up eating them raw in salads! Can anyone please recommend a way of cooking them to treat like a vegetable? (Just love them fried, but won't go down that path. ...)
Many thanks x

Just thinking about what mum does, I have made it myself once - dry fry or use minimal oil to cook your mushrooms, make a sauce separately by mixing a pot of low fat crème fraiche with smoked paprika and season, mix the two together, wallah - mushroom stroganoff or some kind of substitute. enjoy. Jp.
Hi George 56 here. I'm keen on mushrooms and onions with garlic & season to taste. Have a stir-fry & add bean sprouts. The large mushrooms can be stuffed with any Healthy filling. Enjoy. G
Thanks, George56, for taking the time to help me out! Will try these out. Looking forward to reading of your continuing progress - keep up the good work!
If you ever get the large field mushrooms they make a great mini pizza base! Bake with tomatoes, herbs and a little melted cheese, I like crumbled feta 😀
I buy the large field mushrooms, remove and chop the stalks, dry/lightly fry together with chopped garlic, remove from pan, then lightly fry the mushroom caps. (You can, of course, do all this together in one pan, but I prefer to do it separately). Then pile the garlic/stalks onto the mushroom caps and top with a teaspoon of low fat cheese (phili or similar). Put under grill or in the oven until just melted. Delicious and very few calories. You can eat this on its own/with salad/accompaniment to meat dish. Very versatile. Happy eating!
Hi Hairflair here. mushrooms added to a stir fry ideal .cheeky when added to a creamy sauce on a jacket potato.tossed with tomatoso in Lea and perrin sauce cooked. and put onto a slice of toast.or added too scrambled eggs.Sue.
They sound great! Thank you for your post and best wishes, too.
another good idea from my slimming world days which btw I still take on a lit of what they advocate was to use the lg portabella mushroom to put a low fat burger in I make mine with low fat mince onion and an egg all mixed together I won a burger mould in a raffle once there, there are shop versions you can get from Iceland they do a lovely slimming world burger.
Too many to list! Mushrooms make a great curry (just cook with a nice pataks curry paste, lime and chopped tomatoes), fried with garlic and served on toast with a bit of rocket, or fry with onions, garlic and passata and serve with pasta. Cook them with onions, sour cream and a dash of nutmeg to serve with pasta. I have a nice recipe with sliced mushrooms topped with cheesy mash, baked in an oven for 30 mins - it's around 400 calories a portion.
