How do people stay positive when you've such a long journey ahead? Many people on here seem to have smaller goals (which is still a struggle And an amazing feat by all means- don't get me wrong!) but I have in the region of 7 stone to lose and it just seems like such a long way off. I don't want quick results, but I'm worried that I'll never make it as j never have before. Can anyone share their tips on motivation, dedication and positivity? Feeling overwhelmed. Thanks X
Long journey: How do people stay... - Weight Loss Support
Long journey
Most people break it down into smaller goals - a stone at a time.
You've got a great opportunity to try and lose your first stone in time for Christmas!
Welcome to the forum, I too have a lot to lose so I break it down into small fragments of 1/2 stone goals. Makes the job easier to cope with. You may only lose a pound a week but by golly they soon mount up. So enjoy and don't panic we are all in the same boat πππ
Good luck

I have a long journey. By keeping to the rules, the weight us coming off slowly. Stick around and get support
I certainly will do, this forum is fantastic, it's a shame I didn't find you all sooner! Thanks X
Keep posting and reply to posts....when I don't do this ...I tend to lose focus...good luckπ
Hi,
I started out with over 13 stone to lose and still have over 9 to go! The reason I never tried dieting was because it seemed simply impossible to lose that much weight.
It isn't always easy and at the moment I am a little stuck but sticking with it. I see it more as a lifestyle change so I am not too strict as I know I it will take me 2+ years to get to a healthy weight.
So for me it is a mix of short goals - a lb at a time, plus looking ahead. I am 4 stone lighter now than I was in February. If I keep going at this pace I'll be 8 stone lighter by July. That helps encourage me.
I set myself lots of little targets too and reward myself by saving money for a new wardrobe when I am slim. I save Β£1 for every lb I lose plus Β£5 for smaller targets and Β£10 for major ones. I am sadly still casing the first major one But I'll get there.
There are a few of us here with a lot to lose and also a few people who have had huge losses so keep posting and checking in it really is worth it.
Good luck
Wow Sue 4 stone since Feb is incredible- thank you for replying, you've definitely made me more positive about it! X
Sue, you are doing amazingly well! The psychology of small rewards is great - I need to do that myself. Have lost 3.5 stone and have another 4.5 to go. I agree that it is important to get all the support you can - I had lost my way this past 2 weeks but coming back on here has inspired me to keep going.
Wishing you continued success - keep being awesome! π x
I had 6 stone to lose and I work towards each stone other wise u just see it as a long journey which makes u feel like u won't achieve it when u can a lot of losing weight is ur mindset on dieting don't set ur self of o j have to weight 10 st etc think I'm gonna get to this first stone etc x
Oops - I thought sue's post was the original!
Rj - I know how you feel, but every day you eat healthily is a day closer to your goal. Do nice things for yourself - have a long, relaxing bubble bath, take a walk through a park, reconnect and love yourself enough to make the changes. xx
Thanks Kitty I'm certainly trying to do that- yesterday I took a long walk with friends and today I'm going to make myself a nice healthy Sunday dinner. It's easier to do that on the weekend though, as I have a very hectic job and my personal goals and any relaxation get pushed to the bottom of the priority list Monday- Friday. I'll work on that. X
Hi Rj,
You have begun your journey already by coming here as your first step, as people here are amazingly supportive and kind.
As others above say break it up into small chunks so your goals always look reachable and treat yourself as you deserve , be kind to yourself.
Lots of people here have a lot to lose (I have around 8 stone to lose)and have already lost half stone, but I am trying to simply focus on a healthier me. If I have a more challenging week like this one, eekk I try and look at the bigger picture and that this will take time.
Try and find lots of things food wise , exercise-wise, social -wise that will help you to focus on looking after yourself.
One thing I do find is really helpful is have a food diary write down what you eat daily and work out how many calories you have had it can be easy to not realize how much you are really having and this helps to see any changes that may help.
Good Luck Rj
Keep posting and if you fancy it you can join the mon weigh in that Low cal posts!
Hi Rj92x,
Definitely breaking down goals into manageable chunks - like half a stone at a time really helps. I started my weight loss journey at 18 stone 8 pounds, and I felt pretty hopeless at the start, but over time I've lost weight and now I'm trying to get into the 12's, and I'm feeling so much healthier and happier.
It is possible, and very achievable.
Please do join us for the Monday group weigh-in if you think that being part of a group weigh-in would be something you'd enjoy. I post it just before 7am on Mondays, and over 70 people join in for that weigh-in, so it's quite popular! Most importantly, it's very supportive - and part of the reason I love it so much is because everyone who contributes is so lovely and supportive and we help each other on this weight loss journey.
The whole forum is great for that, so whatever you decide to do, I wish you a really positive experience and success in your goals.

Hi Rj,
You've had some excellent replies and I agree with everyone
I started at 19st 10lbs 10 weeks ago, have lost 19lbs so far and am hoping for more at tomorrow's weigh-in, but I still have another 7 1/2 st to go
The support on this forum is second to none and it's carrying me along my path to skinnydom and because of it, I have no doubt that I shall achieve my goal.
I really hope it has the same effect on you too.
All the very best on your journey
Hi. I am new today to this board, and I too have several stone to lose. I now have high cholesterol and borderline diabetes and have frightened myself into taking action. But I have done it before! In 2007 I lost nearly 7 stone, then fell off the wagon and put most back on. This time is different as now I have health worries- I don't want to die of heart disease! I found that not looking at that huge mountain to climb helped. Instead, break it down to micro goals-half stone bites. It was the ONLY way I could face it. It has scared me now and I am so very angry with myself, as I have put myself hugely at risk . Keep in touch and we will spur each other along! Carol X
Every stone off should be celebrated
One thing I have done to stop me obsessing to much about losing stones is to diet in kilos. I know I am only fooling me but it sort of works. I don't actually know what I weigh in stones and ilbs. I could find out but that might disturb my focus. So I use kilos. I know I need to be rid of a lot of them. πππππ
This is a really good point! There are 2.2lbs per kilo so when you say you have lost 1 kg - it converts to a lovely 2lb loss. A little thing but it works well!
It is helping me keep my focus. We all need to build something up that keeps us going because there are times when it really is not fun doing this losing weight thing.
It is so hard. It's the will power thing that I struggle with. Hopefully my new health incentives will help me.
Loving this board-you are all great! π
Try to view it as a lifelong goal to be healthier. Every day you have the chance to do something positive to contribute towards being healthier. Some days things go well, and some days we fall off the wagon, but if your ultimate aim is to change for the better and you keep getting back on the wagon after any blips, it will balance out in the long run. Looking at the bigger picture, if you spent 90% of the year eating right and the other 10% were blips, that surely still works out heavily in your favour, so don't lose heart if you have any blips, just get back up, dust yourself off and keep going. And keep posting and replying here...the people are more helpful and compassionate than I ever could have imagined when I joined. Together, we can do this.
