Newbie here, Started dieting and exercising hard on 28 Nov last year. I am male, 185cm and was 102kg then. The weight had crept up on me (I'm now 57) and my BMI told me I was close to obese. Scary, especially with a 5 year old son. Something had to be done. So far it has gone really well. I have cut out almost all alcohol (occasional drinks every week or so), desserts, second helpings and snacks between 3 meals. But I have not really paid any attention to calories, just eating what appears on my plate, but less of it. And I exercise hard for 45 minutes 6 days a week. I now weigh 93kg, so I have been losing 1kg a week. My target weight is 83kg and I hope to get there in the spring as I think weight loss may slow down before then. I hope I get there and, even more importantly, that the weight will stays off in the future. I love running and am getting faster and faster and this motivates me a lot. And I am lucky in that I'm not really missing the alcohol.

Hi chris1959 , I'm new here as well. This is a very friendly forum with some great advice. wishing you luck with your continued journey downwards.
Hello chris1959 and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺
Very well done on making the changes you have and losing 9 kg. that's a very good weight loss ☺
Have a good look around tne forum especially the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺
The majority of our daily weigh-in's are now full, but we still have spaces in Thursday and Saturday, which you'd be very welcome to join. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.☺
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺
Best wishes
Anna
