hi behappynow :-D from experience i have something light before going for a long walk & run, such as an apple orange. then eat a meal post exercise as i find i am very hungry after expanding energy. i don't know what burns more calories, just what works for me. usually after a meal the last thing i was to do is exercise but to relax. good luck!

I find I cannot eat even a light snack before I exercise as it makes me feel sick so I always opt for eating afterwards. I would suggest that if you find a light snack before exercising works for you it may good to have then a high protein snack afterwards. And of course plenty of water all the way through x

Ps. Don't think that eating before or after makes any difference to calories burned, exercise burns x number of calories regardless of how full or empty your stomach

I think it depends what exercise you will do. I usually exercise after work, I eat a light lunch and occasionally have 1 piece of fruit mid afternoon (but not often). For my normal 30 min of just weights or Hiit running this is okay. However there have been occasions when I tried doing 10 min rowing, then resistance exercises then a long steady run after not eating for nearly 5 hours and I found I ran out of energy and had to stop after 16-22 mins running, even though I had gone longer a few days previously.

Empty stomach if you want to burn calories, but do drink water before you start and throughout your routine.

In saying that if you do eat before it you might have more energy to push yourself harder.
