Hi Suzie59
Have a read through the information I just sent you and you will find all the things you need to get statrted. With regard to exercise while your on crutches I would check with your GP before starting any to make sure your ok to do them.
Check with your GP that they are OK for you but you should be able to find chair exercises on Youtube
Muscle burns off calories, and you can build up muscle by doing exercises sitting or lying down. Mine are pilates type, mainly useful for building up supporting muscle around aching joints such as knees and shoulders.
Our local pool has a time when the disabled can swim for free and the able bodied have to stay away, in practice most of the swimmers are anxious rather than in wheelchairs.
I have balance problems due to ruptured tendons in foot. Sometimes I do chair exercises with light weights (tins of baked beans!) or 'dance' along to Strictly in a dining chair. I am sure there must be videos on YouTube. You can also do press ups by placing your hands on the wall. Swimming is also good and it is bliss to do away with the force of gravity . Good luck.
I use spark or my fitness pal. Look for dvd on chair exercise but ask your doctor first on both
