I am finding having to eat food difficult, especially three times a day. I have never bothered with breakfast, and if I do eat, it will probably be around 3pm, it is a habit I have had for years and years and find difficult to break. I am just not hungry in the mornings. Also I am allergic to bananas which seems to be in a lot of diet recipes ect. Am I the only one with this strange habit?

your strange habits aren't as strange as you think! The trick to a healthy lifestyle is, I think, knowing what works for you. I also find it difficult to eat breakfast and so I don't. I get hungry at about 12 o'clock but sometimes don't get chance to eat until around 2 o'clock. Between then and 10 o'clock at night I manage to eat all of my calorie allowance with no problem at all and this works out at two good meals and a snack of between 100-350 calories. There is no reason at all why you should eat bananas if you don't want to. I would suggest that you check on the NHS BMI calculator to find out how many calories you need to be eating daily and as long as you stay within that range, eat healthily and get some exercise if you are able to, then exactly when you eat is entirely up to you. Good luck x
Ahhh, then I wholeheartedly agree with Tubbyteacher. My struggle has always been training myself to eat fewer calories so missing breakfast (or intermittent fasting) has been great for me; if you can't fit enough calories into your "eating time" then training yourself to eat a meal earlier in the day may be the answer. I have found that eating within set times of day helps to program in new habits. Sometimes (but not often) I have calories to spare and then I find that a handful of nuts and dried fruit at the end of the day uses them up and mashed avocados with a bit of pepper and lemon juice spread on toast also usually does the job and doesn't compromise on my healthy eating. If your old habits aren't working for you, then build new ones that do! Wishing you the best of luck x
You have got into a habit, and habits can be made and also broken! That's the good news 😊
So I suggest, even if you aren't hungry, to start by having just a little bit of breakfast, anything you fancy. All research has shown that you set yourself up for the day if you eat breakfast. It's a time of day when your blood sugar levels are low, and breaking your fast replenishes them. The same with lunch, just have a small lunch of anything you fancy. Eating regularly also helps prevent you overeating late in the day, when you are less likely to burn off calories.
They say it takes 21 days to establish a new habit, so you will need to persevere with this. Notice I haven't mentioned bananas! Here's the thing - you don't have to eat anything you don't want or don't like. Personally I don't usually eat them often as they are high calorie.
Treat yourself to a nice new recipe book, that's what I always do when I need inspiration, or a kick start at New Year. Try the Hairy Dieters books. They are delicious recipes and all calorie counted. But there are hundreds out there - just look on Amazon.
Now - does that seem doable? Give it a go, we are all here to support you.
thanks for the advice will check the book out and give what you say a try
I'm not hungry in the morning either, my first bite of food is around lunchtime - could be as late at 2pm but more likely about 1pm. Jayney61 I think the main thing is not to get too hungry before you eat. You might find this an interesting read:
I found that very interesting, and now feel that I will not feel guilty about not eating breakfast. ore people should read it, thanks for showing me, much appreciated
What a fantastic article Angusina and it is exactly how I feel on the subject which is if you want to eat breakfast then eat it and if you don't then there is no need to force yourself to. Let's face it, we are all different and what works for one, doesn't work for another. x
No, I think many people struggle to eat in the morning, I prefer liquids first thing. I think the trick is to try and make new habits and see if you find it helps in the long run (as in give it a real good long try) or why not try smoothies? Usually quick, easy and not to difficult to sip in the morning. Just because you're allergic to bananas does not mean you can't eat stuff, it's merely a matter of not adding the banana! You should try being vegan! That's awkward lol or at least it is at first because dairy seems to be in EVERYTHING! I feel for people with dairy intolerance as replacements for food items tend to be very expensive! Anyway, good luck!
