Did You Know: GHEE Promotes Weight loss? 4 Reasons You Must Have Ghee

Full of nutrients, ghee or clarified butter comes with an assortment of health benefits. Despite its vast nutrient content, most people avoid ghee, believing that it is fattening. This is in fact not entirely true! Here’s why you should consider adding a dollop of ghee to your meals.

1. Good for your brain: Ghee is an excellent source of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, which help in the proper functioning of your brain and nervous system. Furthermore, these fats can also decrease your risk of getting brain disorders like Alzheimer’s and dementia.

2. Strengthens your immunity: Ghee is rich in nutrients like CLA and K2 that give it its anti-fungal and anti-viral properties. Also, the presence of these nutrients helps ghee in strengthening your immune system so as to keep diseases at bay.

Additionally, several studies show that the butyric acid (acid that helps in controlling metabolism) content of ghee also helps in fortifying your immune system as it enables the creation of killer T cells (a type of white blood cells) in the stomach.

3. Promotes weight loss: Contrary to popular belief, the inclusion of ghee in your diet can also help in reducing fat cells in your body, leading to loss of weight. It does so by improving the functioning of your gall bladder, so that the bile that is produced is able to break down the fats that are digested. As your meals get easily digested, your body’s metabolism levels also increase significantly.

Moreover, it contains medium-chain fatty acids (MCTs) that are responsible for augmenting your body’s metabolic processes. Several researches indicate that these fatty acids have the ability to burn calories and bringing about weight loss. While decreasing hunger, they are also responsible for oxidation of fats that get accumulated in your body.

4. Helps in digestion: Ghee regulates the secretion of stomach acid, which gives you a stronger appetite, while helping you to properly digest your food. Furthermore, when added to foods like khichdi or puran poli, it could help you to digest these better. If you suffer from low levels of butyric acid production, it can significantly perk up your butyric acid production by improving the functioning of your digestive tract. Butyric acid is highly important as it strengthens the walls of your intestines, while being an energy source for your body.

no...it's fat burning, increases appetite and immunity as well. also lubricates our bones and cartilages for smoother movements.

As such, in India it is said.."Do the debt, but drink ghee"!:-)

You can make ghee from butter at home. Collect cream/fat after keeping grass fed cow milk (boiled and cooled) in fridge for a day. Collect this cream...top layer of fat everyday and say in a week or 2 weeks, it would be sufficient quantity for you to make ghee from butter or direct cream. Alternatively, you can buy online from amazon.com or any locally based Indian store, just ask ghee made from grass fed cow's milk

The British Dietetic Association, which is the accepted oracle for such matters, doesn't have a good word to say about ghee. According to them it is a saturated fat and as such, highly calorific and raises bad cholesterol (LDL).

saturated fat is not bad and dietary fat is not responsible for raising cholesterol

These are not credible sources of information. The NHS and British Heart Foundation as well as the afore mentioned BDA all agree that saturated fat raises LDL cholesterol.

Chris Kresser and Dr. Josh Axe is very well know name in natural therapy and alternative medicine on internet. NHS has even failed in lot of things as I could see in the posts in Thyroid UK where the so called doctors don't even know about the optimal ranges of various tests and nutritional deficiencies. Conventional medicine and modern diet both has failed considerably in preventing lot of diseases.

Even doctors in India are not aware of this but our age old wisdom knows better. Natural therapy and herbal medicines are talk of the time.

YOUR FOOD IS YOUR MEDICINE. If you can use it in the best way possible.

Harvard School of health have a moderate view on saturated fat

They say to limit consumption of saturated fat but the real enemy it seems is trans fats found in processed food.

I think cooking with ghee is fine as you only use a little, but probably existing on bacon cheeseburgers would be pushing it!

On a personal note my grandpa is healthy, slim and 92 and has consumed large amounts of butter and cream all his life. we joke that double cream is the source of his powers! I imagine he is not the norm though.

We apply ghee to roti (whole wheat bread) everyday in our lunch. Problem is transfats in processed foods and all vegetable oils also it seems... ghee and butter as a fat delays absorption of carbs in food and thus prevents blood sugar spikes. Plus saturated fat gives a kind of satiety which stays for a longer period and do not feel hungry as fast as you feel hungry when you eat carb loaded meal. Ghee also lubricates the joints in our body and thus smoothen our movements.

Butter and ghee are not evil but use it in moderation.

I´m doing a low-fat diet at the moment, so I´ve eliminated all free fats including vegetable oils, and I cook without them, but I use 1 tablespoon of ground flax seed each day, as I´ve read that it contains excellent fats. It seems I´m getting a good amount of fat from vegetable milks too, 4.3 grams per glass of soy milk, and 5.3 per glass of almond milk.

A dish without fat is not tasty according to me...and if the food is not tasty...such diets cannot be retained for longer periods of time...

Instead of low fat diet, low carb diets are better to lose weight as well as reduce triglycerides. But amount of carbs you remove from your diet has to be replaced by good fats like butter, cheese, nuts, peanuts etc.. Eating such a good fat daily improves insulin sensitivity and prevents from heart disease, diabetes etc..

You can cook with virgin cooconut oil instead of vegetables oils which you already have removed. By the way, we use filtered groundnut oil but I feel somehow, 4-5 small meals a day increases metabolism and thus help in reducing weight instead of carb loaded heavy meals which causes blood sugar spikes.

Just eat as many calories as can you burn during the day...avoiding dinner helps in reducing weight as well or you can take your last meal before 6 pm

It´s tasty enough for me ! I use barbeque sauce, soy sauce, herbs, lemon juice, spices, sambhar masala and sabji masala.

oh...that's great enough! I do not like much fried items but without tadka of our Indian style, food is not interesting for me...Actually, I am also eating high carb diet...which I want to switch over to low carb diet...but in low carb diet you have to replace carbs with good fat for energy...and plan a lot....habituated with carbs...wish to break this habit. Also, being a vegetarian, it's difficult to follow low carb diets since all grains and fruits contain carbs...even milk and legumes/beans contains more than 50% of carbs...all plant foods have lot of carbs in it...which is why we should eat more vegetables, milk products, nuts and less of grains as we age....due to reduced metabolism and lesser activity than before...

Very interesting. We use ghee in Moroccan cooking too. It is lovely 😊

I personally don't think there's that much wrong with it, like everything it's all about moderation.

Thanks for sharing 😊
