Those of you who may have read my post from this week will know that I have started a new fitness programme thanks to the help from a personal trainer. He mentioned to me that I should have avoiding carbs - pasta, rice, bread and potatoes etc. He said that if I did have them in my diet I should try to have them in the morning. I'm a bit worried about doing that because a fair amount of my diet involves pasta, rice and potatoes; I probably have a portion of each once a week (therefore carbs at least 3 times a week). I'm trying to stick to the NHS 12 week plan and meal suggestions, which obviously includes carbs so I'm not really sure what to do? Any advice you may had will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

if you are doing any kind of fitness or training your body will need carbs even if you only have them on training days or your body will burn out and that is no good for your health in the long run just cut back on none training days and you should be fine
no problem just remember all diffrent things work for diffrent people but everybodys body works the same way we all need carbs protein and fats for it to work at its best
Hi Fabfran
Yes it's I agree it is confusing. The way I look at it is - healthy eating is for life and my school of thought is it's about being realistic. Therefore adopting the principle that healthy eating is for life - can you live without rice pasta potatoes and bread in your life.
I believe when I start depriving myself of certain basic foods that has the potential to make me think I am doing without and I tend crave /want it more.
I try and mix it up and if I want it I just count it in my allowance for the day. Most things in moderation. I cook things differently no oil salt etc. and portion control is also important.
I think we have to take the pressure off by being realistic and making it achievable.
I agree with your personal trainer, I've cut carbs a lot and increased protein and that gives me loads of energy and no sugar lows leading to bad food choices. I've lost nearly 3 stone without calorie counting and I would say it's not a diet, just how I eat now. But, just as the others said, different things work for different people 😊
Cutting anything out completely sounds like a bad idea to me! 3 portions a week really doesn't sound excessive, just choose to eat them on the days when you need that type of energy. Food is more than just fuel, it's enjoyable too, and if you don't find a happy balance you won't be able to stickto it. GGood luck!
