Can any of the members help me with carbs. What are the things to avoid. My doctor told me to cut out potatoes, rice, pasta and bread, yiks what do I eat instead. Thanks in advance

Stick to fresh food, Nuttytart. Meat, fish, vegetables, eggs, full fat dairy, nuts and don't be afraid of natural fat.
Steer clear of anything labelled diet, low fat, fat free, light.
That is very helpful thank you. I just need to get in the habit of change. I find replacing bread the hardest as not sure what to replace it with that is low carb. Will defiantly give your advise a try.

Hi Nuttytart, I've been doing very low carb (keto) for almost 4 weeks now and lost half a stone... Bread is difficult but here is a low carb recipe for a keto bread. It's quick to make and whilst not perfect, I do find it helps when I am desperate for bread type food. There are other keto bread recipes out there that I haven't tried...
1 egg
1 Tablespoon butter or oil
3 Tablespoons Almond Flour
(I just use ground almonds)
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
To make, simply combine all the ingredients in a small bowl and pour into a greased microwave-safe bowl or ramekin. Microwave for 90 seconds. Flip out of the ramekin and slice in half.
(Alternatively just fry for a few minutes in butter or oil)..

First: lucky you for having a switched-on doctor!
Energy-wise, you replace carbs with fat. That doesn't mean you have to eat everything swimming in grease. Just don't be afraid of cooking your chicken with the skin on, or having bacon&eggs for breakfast. Have cream in your coffee and butter on your veg. A little fat goes a long way because it's very energy-dense.
Recipe-wise, replace starches with other veg. For example try replacing potatoes with cauliflower. In general, though, it's best not to attempt to achieve the same taste/appearance as carby foods - it doesn't really work and you'll feel disappointed with the result. Yes, you can make bolognese with spiral-cut courgettes instead of pasta, but it's just not the same! For now, just dump those carb-based recipes and learn new ones (dietdoctor is a great resource).
Oh, and don't try to limit your calories. Eat regular meals (no snacks) and stop when you're full, not before.
It takes a bit of getting used to, but after a few weeks you'll find you don't even want a big pile of rice or pasta with everything. The best part is that you'll be able to reintroduce these things later - even cake and chocolates - and not feel the need to go on a massive binge.

Wish my GP had told me that instead of advising low fat diet! Low carb just the best thing that I’ve done in years, I now feel so much healthier and happier. Don’t worry, there is life after bread and the LCHF meals are very satisfying. There’s also more no bread/pasta options becoming available on the high street as the food outlets are catching on to it. I was worried too that I couldn’t make the change, but it was easier than I thought. Good luck!
Great advice so far. You asked about reducing bread. This is hard, but I will have a satisfying bowl of soup, followed by a few pieces of fruit, I find this filling. One of my other favourites is Berry compote with 0%fat Greek yogurt. I make this with a chopped cooking apple, half a bag of frozen berries and some Stevia, that's a natural sweetener. Cook on the hob for 8-10minutes, cool and put in a sealed container. This lasts for 3 days or so. Also, an omelette made with 2 eggs and a few bits n pieces is very satisfying, I throw in a few mushrooms, handful of frozen peas and some chopped peppers. You will get used to eating healthy meals, just stick it out for a few weeks and set yourself small goals. Good luck.
I like your suggestions but I find the full fat (10%) Greek yoghurt more filling.

I have been following a low carb diet for4 weeks now and have lost 16lb, it does work and becomes easier after time.
That is even with eating normal food at the weekend when I haven’t been able to follow the diet.

I have done it by eating protein at every mealtime, meat, fish, keep the sauces down( read the carb content on everything).
Kippers in butter have no carbs, I have them for breakfast along with other choices, eggs, bacon, certain sausages, berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries,blackberries) I give them a lift with double cream, also, an omelette with cheese or ham and mushrooms, I am not a snacker, but there are loads of meat and fish you can snack on.
In Iceland you can buy bags of frozen grated veg(cauliflower,brocolli) that you can mistake for rice and add meat in a low carb sauce.
We have a lot of fish fried in extra virgin oil, with a large salad.
Include nuts and seeds in your food too.
Prawns, crayfish tails, lobster have no carbs and there are lots of soup that are low carb too.
I think if you avoid,bread,potatoes,rice and pasta you will definitely lose weight, buy butter, cream and full fat milk, it will keep you full,
