Hi all,

I'm just beginning my weight loss journey here and want to lose around 4 stone by the end of January :)

Does anyone have any tips on staying motivated?

Hi and welcome. If you type in 'staying motivated' in the search facility top right of the screen, loads of previous posts on that subject will come up, have a read lots of advice and tips 😊 good luck!

Hi and welcome kbaker21 :)

Have a look at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen, (bottom if you're on a mobile) and read our Welcome Newbie post. It has a link to the NHS 12 week plan, which is a great place to start. It doesn't give a specific diet plan, but gives guidelines for healthy eating.

Consider signing up for any, or all of our challenges, as they're fun and motivating.

We also have a monday group weigh-in and if you click follow on my profile, you'll get a notification when I post it on monday. You can have a look at the latest thread in the events section, to the right of the home page.

Be active on the forum, as that's where we meet to exchange ideas and get our daily fix of inspiration and motivation :)

It is good to have a focus for your weight loss efforts, and if January is to be your target, you could realistically aim to lose several pounds in your first week or two, but after that, it will probably settle to around 1 or 2lbs a week. After all, you didn't gain the weight quicker than a pound or two each week so it is not unreasonable to expect it to come off at the same speed it went on.

Motivation comes from inside you; make yourself a promise to have a new body by your next birthday? Buy a lovely frock one size down and promise yourself to fit into it by Christmas. Put a photo you hate on the fridge and another of a younger slimmer you next to it?

Don't forget, healthy eating is for life, not just the short term, and eventually you will reach your target if you are determined. Good luck!
