Two years and six months of progress

I joined this group in great anticipation of losing a lot of weight as a new year's resolution in 2014. I weighed in at 145kg (nearly 23 stone!) and about as unfit as I've ever been. Joined the C25K at the same time with a great show of enthusiasm and guess what? Didn't run and didn't lose weight. Kidded myself that I was walking enough to get fit, my legs (calves especially) were solid with muscle and my weight wasn't that bad so I hovered around the 140kg mark until February this year.

What's happened to change me?

First and most important, my wife was diagnosed as pre-diabetic and needed to lose weight and was advised to reduce sugar intake. I resolved to encourage her by joining her in eating less and better.

Second, I was diagnosed has having primary lymphoedema. The firm "muscle" in my calves was a build up of fluid. Wearing compression stockings has reduced the volume of each leg by over 1 litre making walking, running and general mobility far easier.

Third, a series of articles in the Daily Mail promoting a book by Michael Mosley concerned with preventing pre-diabetics becoming Type 2 diabetics.

Results so far: my wife is no longer pre-diabetic, I now weigh in at 121kg (19 stone) and I've completed week 7 of the C25K programme.

Weight loss has slowed down but I fully intend to be under 115kg by the end of the year.

Woohoo Mr and Mrs Stewie!! :)

Have a look at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen, (bottom if you're on a mobile) and read our Welcome Newbie post. It has a link to the NHS 12 week plan, which is a great place to start. It doesn't give a specific diet plan, but gives guidelines for healthy eating.

I don't know whether you'll want to start this, or whether you'll continue doing what you have been doing, so successfully :)

Consider signing up for any, or all of our challenges, as they're fun and motivating.

I especially hope you'll post on our running thread :)

We also have a monday group weigh-in and if you click follow on my profile, you'll get a notification when I post it on monday. You can have a look at the latest thread in the events section, to the right of the home page.

Be active on the forum, as that's where we meet to exchange ideas and get our daily fix of inspiration and motivation :)

Wishing you all the very best :)

How brilliant that you and your wife are going on this journey together. Even better to hear that the weight loss and exercise has helped your medical conditions. Keep going and I am sure you will reach your goal by the end of the year :)
