Mentioned before BP is high (even on meds)...weight loss and exercise has made no difference, very, very disappointing. Nurse at surgery says to keep going for these health issues.....I did come out again muttering, what's the point. ...... Weight loss me for me is all about, health, looking slimmer, feeling better, if one of these gets knocked, I get very demotivated. Even given up (nearly) caffiene......Nothing in life is ever easy.....

BP still not good
Oh dear 😕 How disappointing for you 😕 I hope the nurse was at least encouraging? It must be difficult for you 😕 Try not to let these things knock you back, she us right that eating properly will pay dividends in the end 😊 Good luck and very best wishes
I'm so sorry to hear your demotivated BP can be a nuisance, are you sure some of it isn't 'white coat syndrome'. I take my own BP at home, although sometimes too often, as mine is also high and it's always higher at the Drs. Like you I've had quite a few different medications, sometimes they cause unpleasant side effects. I'm doing the weight loss now hoping this will control it, just doing something which is is your control is positive, so just keep on losing weight and exercising it must be good for us both. Hopefully someone on here will have a few ideas. Good luck miamia keep going 👍
I totally agree about "white coat syndrome" My Dad kept getting a high blood pressure reading at the Dr's so he got his own blood pressure monitor and records his own reading once a week. It is always significantly lower than the doctors reading. He takes the print out in to show the Doctor and they are happy with his pressure now. Also have you looked into controlled breathing exercises to help lower blood pressure. If you google it then lots of info comes up. I know when I was pregnant with my second child I had an issue with high blood pressure and did not want to go on medication so I managed it with the breathing. May not work for you but just a thought. I know you say if one of your reasons for weight loss get knocked then you get demotivated but out of the 3 you still have feeling better and looking slimmer so its good to be good right! I know its not easy but keep going and hope the BP issue gets sorted for you
It is a horrible shock every time we realise that being good doesn't quite work. I have my bingo wings and slightly dodgy knees to remind me that I should have lost that weight/kept it off the last time. And to remind me that getting it wrong can have lasting effects that I just have to learn to live with.
Having been prescribed diet and exercise in a medical setting, you expected them to take you back to health rather than simply manage a permanent condition better. And they might have. If both heredity and age don't sabotage BP reduction. But I am no expert.
What you might be able to do is keep the BP this manageable with your weight loss and exercise. I am sure there is a scale of how it impacts on our bodies. You might fare better at the lower end of that scale than the higher one. Just as some fit diabetics are able to stop or reduce their medications. So you might still technically have the high BP but be able to dodge some of the nastier symptoms and effects. Why not explore that option?
I sound a bit like Pollyanna, I know, making lemonade from life's lemons. But you do have the choice of creating a better fitter body for your BP to exist in or throwing in the towel and going with the flow, giving yourself a reduction in health and well being. And that choice is yours. I know that you are a very determined person who wants the best for everyone around you. Now you just have to make sure that you do your best for you. Because we're worth it!
Off now to buy more T shirts with three quarter length sleeves!!!
Personally, I'd go out and buy a monitor and learn how to use. Then on a quiet day, maybe a Sunday if you don't have commitments, get out of bed, sit at the kitchen table (alone in peace preferably) and take your BP. Don't drink or eat anything before you take your BP and don't move or talk while the monitor is doing its thing....Mine is CRAZY at the docs but around 110/75 at home.
You might find this advice from the Mayo Clinic useful...

I am now over the shock I guess.....doing what you think is right and to not get the results you hoped for is tough. Started this journey to loose weight and to look better to be honest, then the whole health issue came into it. I guess this would be a natural spin off. Which is good. I just need come come out of the Doctors surgery with a smile on my face....!
Thank you for your support and link....
My wife suffers from high BP and when checked at a recent visit to the GP it was high despite meds. They sat her down for 10 minutes checking every 2 minutes and on the 3rd check it was normal and for the next 3 checks too! Lucky our GP had the time to sit down with her, chat with her and set her at ease, most wouldn't and might have prescribed an unnecessary change in meds. A home monitor would probably help and hopefully confirm that it isn't as bad as when you visit the GP.
Yes, nothing is easy (well most things aren't easy except maybe pocketing £5 million for managing a bunch of puffed up goons purporting to be the nation's best at footie) which makes the end goal that much more satisfying when you nail it and stick at it.
thank you..
I do think you are allowed your moan, miamia , and a good exploration of the topic from all us nosy b...s before you decide what your attitude is going to be and how to progress. Isn't that part of our adjustment process? So keep that smile till you're really ready to use it again. And thanks for a really thought provoking post/thread.
