Something's gotta give...

Hi, I'm new to this site, hoping to get some encouragement from people in the same boat! I've struggled with weight loss since having children... They're now 13 and 9 and I'm heavier than ever. I'm a socially anxious depressive who spends the weekends drinking and eating chocolate whilst hating myself for not sticking to the diet. I've tried WW and SW and had small losses but it's never felt sustainable. I've been suffering migraines frequently so I'm now worried that my weight is playing a part, and since my mum died at 57 of a complication of high BP I know I need to sort myself out, it just feels very lonely when your family are all thin and active and have never been through this!

Life is not easy when you live with teenage children who are beginning to find their own feet in life. I imagine the over-eating is a symptom of your frustration and perhaps a little unhappiness because your life revolves around caring for your family, with little time or enjoyment for you.

Start by thinking what you could do to give yourself a bit of a boost; you say you are shy... but can you find an interest to get you out of the house? I have always found comfort in the company of animals. Could you offer to walk a neighbour's dog unless you have one of your own? ...or take a camera out and snap pictures of wildlife. Are you creative? Do you like to paint or sew? Even writing can be therapeutic.

The migraines are probably directly related to your diet; chocolate, cheese and red wine are well known triggers. Also, hormonal ups and downs that occur in mid-life can aggravate migraines. Look at the 12 Week program and try to adjust your meals to incorporate more fruit and veg, less sugar and ration yourself to a very small amount of chocolate each day - like a kit-kat or one milky way for example. Let us know if there is any improvement? We would all love to hear how you are getting on.

Hi Mand1980 and welcome to this very friendly forum you have defiantly come to the right place for motivation and advice 😀 I too have a very thin and active family with no weight issues at all so I know exactly how you feel but you have made the first positive step by joining here 👍

I've lost over 11/2stone in the last 17 weeks since starting the nhs12wk plan and feel fantastic. I would recommend you down load the nhs12wk plan and have a good read through. The plan and this forum is a good platform to gain ideas to change habits forever life. It's not easy as it's taken you years to gain the weight and will take time and motivation to loose it. But you will if you put your mind to it.

Sounds like you have a lovely family and health reasons to give you that push you need...and we are here too. Use us someone is allways here 😆

Baby steps and you will succeed.

Good luck. Claire x

Good luck. I have quite a few stone to lose. It's taken me all year to lose half a stone ! I have started the c25k app and am enjoying running if I'm by myself I wear head phones. I come on here almost daily and I am feeling inspired by lots of people that are making positive changes.

I myself have never been slim and have alway stepped back in situation feeling uncomfortable with my weight, I and like so many others have tried so many diets that make you feel a complete failure when you don't succeed. This time for me is different some how, it's not a diet it's a healthy life style, I've made small changes, swapping food for healthier options and cooking everything from scratch. No food is a sin!! We all have days that we reach for the biscuit tin but don't let that define you or your journey, ever single one of us will have their own journey to take with many bumps and turns along the way, the important thing is to get there in the end , best of luck :)

I wish you good luck and the golden rule in any diet ia hidratation : water makes miracles ! 500 ml of water in the morning before eating helps digestion , cuts off hunger , cleans your body of toxine and gives you energy for a fresh start !

Send you my love xoxo
