Just starting out on the Nhs 12 week heathy eating and exercise plan.

biggirlsarebeautiful profile image

Just wondered if anyone could give me some ideas or tips as I am just starting out on the 12 weeks Nhs plan. I am a mum of two children aged 14 and 11years. At the moment it seems I am putting my life on hold as I am very overweight and I think it's about time I did something for me. I am also keen to set an example to my kids as I don't want them to become me! I am worried how I am going to fit exercise in too as I am always taking them to places and don't have much time in between. Any tips on healthy meals or ways to exercise would be welcome.

Hi Biggirlsarebeautiful,

Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS forum. It's great to hear you're about to start the NHS 12 week plan, and I'd like to wish you success with it. You've asked a few things, so I'd like to give you some hopefully helpful links:

The first is our Welcome Newbie post:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

The second is a link page to NHS Choices about Exercise:

nhs.uk/livewell/fitness/Pag...

The third is a link to our Collated Recipes that we've put together in the forum:

If you like the idea of a weekly weigh-in, then do join us for our Monday group weigh-in sessions. You can see the latest thread in the Events section. If you look at the homepage, you'll see the Pinned posts in the top right-hand corner, and then below that is the Events section. You'd be very welcome to join us for the weekly weigh-in, if it was something you like the look of.

Have a great week!

Lowcal :-)

Hi Biggergirlsarebeautiful.

i have the same problem so my lovely hubby bought me a fitbit. I currently have it set at 10000 steps a day and just push myself to make sure i do this as a minimum. Since I have started using it my son wants to walk with me to help me lose weight (he's 10) and is worried already that he may get "cuddly". I have just started listening to music but don't sit down i just have a "disco"in my living room, although afore mentioned son says it embarrassing!

Foodwise I have got rid of any white carbs and just changed us all onto wholewheat, and have now got smaller plates for myself (the same size as my sons's) so it looks like I'm eating more. I have decided I'm not dieting but changing my lifestyle so am not going to give anything up.

I know I'm only on day2 b ut it works for me.

good luck

Lies

thank you, good luck to you too. Think I might have a disco on my own when kids have gone to school tomorrow!

Change the mindset, it then begins so much easier, can, will and achievable are words you need to believe..........bad days do and will happen.

My recent thoughts are damage limitation, my current motto

,

Lowcal has given you food for thought, by the links, mine would be, challenge the whys and how's, of why you over eat , it may be complex, a journey I'd done a few years ago, well worth it too

Went on it and lost just 1lb in 3 months, sticking ridgedly to eating plan, exercise plan and more! Just didn't work here but hope you find it different.

How about doing something while they are out? So if you have to drop them at a frinds house for example, then find a pool nearby and go for a swim before you have to collect them again.

Not what you're looking for?
