I've been depressed and unfortunately unemployment for a while now, my relationship has suffered as we cannot live to the same standard as before....less days out and paid activities.
As a result of this I have been piling on the pounds.
I hope to lose the weight and keep it off without dramatically changing my diet (vegan) I would like to do it through exercise and fun activities.

Sorry to hear about your situation. You don't really need to settle for fewer days out - you just need to be inventive!
Picnics at the park, walks, free open days all at little or no cost. The walk can count towards exercise or you could take up running or maybe there are free tennis courts near you.
I think if I was in your position I would have overindulged too (we use food as a comfort to us).
I have just started the 12 week plan yesterday and though I haven't even done my first weeks weigh in yet I already feel so much happier (I think food only makes us feel better in the short term and then we feel so guilty afterwards for overindulging that we end up even more upset).
I have started easing myself in with exercise as I don't do any normally. I have bought a Fitbit and do the recommended 10,000 steps every day. I have also bought myself an exercise bike which I use for 30 minutes 3 times per week. I find these quite enjoyable and low maintenance as I am very out of shape at the moment.
As for fun activities a lot of things still count as exercise such as a class of some sort perhaps? This would really help with your weight loss as it would be something you enjoy it and wouldn't feel like work
Hi Miss Mink. I'm sorry to hear life is a bit tough right now, I do hope things take a turn for the better soon. However, how fantastic that you have decided to share your hopes and try and move things to a healthier place. That's a really big step, the first is always the worst!
I'm also, mainly, vegan. You can definitely loose weight on a vegan diet. I'd suggest getting on my fitness pal and sticking within your calorie limit, you can check this out on the NHS 12 week plan. Then as the other posts have said, there are so many fun things that are free. Walking is so fantastic for health, developing stamina, loosing weight and has been shown to lift mood and therefore help with depression. Best of all it's free and the weather, mainly, is good enough to get out a few times a day Other than that, dancing? Get a dvd from a charity shop for a couple of pounds and you, and your partner, can have fun learning a new skill and getting fit together. Also, does your local park have one of those free outdoor gym areas? So many things!
Mainly enjoy, take one day at a time, and have fun.
