I'm 41, mum of two (aged 9 & 13) . After relying on SW or WW for many years , now need to learn to eat healthily and watch my portion sizes! Recently joined my weight matters, and brought a Fitbit tracker.  Love walking my dog, time with family, and watching our car drifting team!

Hi and welcome Zetecs :)

Please take a look at our Welcome Newbies thread, as it's full of helpful hints to get you started. It can be found in the pinned posts section at the right of your screen, along with several challenges, which are motivating and a lot of fun :)

I'd also like to invite you along to our monday group weigh-in, which is friendly, non-judgemental and very supportive. It's not too late to join last monday's, if you wish :)

I hope we'll see a lot of you on the forum and wishing you all the very best :)

If you count calories and plan your meals you will lose, exercise helps but does not work for me if I don't count and write down what I am eating. You can do this, you just have to make your mind up and decide you want to be thinner and more active for health reasons. don't try to eat the same as family, sort yourself out first if they can eat the same good, but make yourself a priority. I have spent 27 years trying to lose weight but now I have, only trouble is I am 67 now ! It only took me 5 and half months to lose nearly 4 stone but I could have done it sooner and been able to do a lot more ,not had knee op etc etc so go for it x.

Hello

You are absolutely right to make long term health and fitness your goal 😊 I also wish I had done this earlier but at (almost) 55 feel finally in control 😊 There is lots of useful info on here in the Newbies post. Take time to do some research and find a plan that suits you, I follow a generous one for regular treats and slow steady weight loss. I don't see any reason why you need separate meals to your family, I eat the same just weigh my portions carefully (I am now quite a good judge!)

Very best wishes from another dog walker 😊
