....am I dreaming....

Today was a treat day - haven't had a choccy treat in 7 weeks, so we went to Patisserie Valerie today in Cheltenham and I had a slice of the double choc gataeu.  I gave half to my daughter and it was just wonderful - what a treat!

Anyhow, I return home and I guess I'd better look at the calorie content.  275!!  Am I dreaming!?  I thought it would be way more than that, and that's for a full portion too - although I acknowledge it was ~150cals of full-on lard and sugar.  I still can't believe it wasn't more though! *burp* ;-)

Glad you enjoyed your treat - the occasional treat is essential to long term weight loss to avoid that feeling of being deprived!  Great that it wasn't as naughty as you had anticipated.

Thanks, it was a win win for sure.  I also have IBD and something like that normally makes me unwell, but I decided to risk it and was totally fine.  Seems all this healthy eating is having other unseen benefits :-D

Oh that sounds nice. Did you find you enjoyed it all the more as it was a treat and not an everyday occurrence? At 275 calories I bet you wished you hadn't given half of it away ;)

Haha, I was happy to share as they are pretty reasonable slabs - and it was just a nice amount.  I really did enjoy it more because it was a treat definitely, although it's not somewhere we go too often, so it's always been a treat, but more so this time.  I found I ate it more slowly as opposed to the choc shovelling I'd become accustomed to :-)

I did something similar once with a slice of chocolate ganache tart in Caffe Nero when I had some kcal left at the end of my week (and after weighing!).  Do you know, they have never had it since?  So the gods of slimming do look after us in their haphazard way.  So glad to meet a fellow patisserie fan.  I had to have an options hot choc yesterday after watching Bake Off's Creme de la Creme!  And a Lidl no added sugar chocolate muesli bar, just fell into my hand as I was searching for the Melba toasts.  Very nice too.  But your option sounds so much more satisfactory.  Why did we never think of sharing in the past?  It's been a revelation to me.  That and eating with teaspoons.  I am down to the egg spoon some days!  Oh and not above the chopsticks.  Anything to slow me down.

We saw three ladies sitting next to us.  They had 2 slices of gateau between them.  Two different kinds.  They sliced each slice into 3 so they each had a bit from each cake, I thought that was a good idea too :-)

Really? There is a P V shop near me, is that 275 per 100g or per whole portion  ?

I looked on-line (myfitnesspal) and for one slab of the gateau it's 275 cals.  I though it would be double that (and the rest) - unless they've missed a zero off the end....  hmm....
