Good luck purplejo. Try the 12 week NHS writing down your calories and doing 150 mins of exercise is good. It makes me cringe sometimes at the end of the day to see that I've only done, say, 10 minutes that day and makes me try harder the next day. I wear a pedometer every day and managing around 8,000 steps a day.

I've lost 8lb in 4 weeks which isn't bad but I must try harder. I'm lucky to have a great social life so I'm at least losing weight along with that. I also feel so much fitter and not so tired. As I have around 5 stone to lose feeling fitter is great for me.

Do try this site though, the people are lovely and always have a kind and supportive word.

Good luck I look forward to seeing how you get on.

HelloPurplejo,

Welcome and I wish you the very best of luck, but as they say, we make our own luck and it's true so I agree with Cockneyblue that the NHS 12 week plan is the way to go. I've lost around 3stone since last March but managed to reach my target weight last September, so 6 months. I've been more relaxed recently but I'm back on plan now and would most definitely recommend this healthy eating plan (don't like the word diet). Good luck & very best wishes.

Greetings fellow fatty, I have an almost 3 stone loss behind me and about another 6 to go. Been at it since January 2015, not my first attempt as I have been dieting for 40 years. You would think I would have perfected it by now lol. Actually I am really good at losing weight, I'm just rubbish at keeping it off. This time round i decided on a different approach, i started exercising first before i even looked at food. This is the longest I have kept the weight off and I LOVE exercising. I can't imaging my life without it. Walking is thee best therapy for mental well being. Many a day i have been stressed, donned my trainers and headed out and an hour later I'm stress free and I haven't eaten my way through 10 bags of crisps. My tip for sanity is to talk on here before you reach for the goodies and see if that helps. Distraction therapy really does work, walk, have a bath, dance, paint your nails, scrub the kitchen floor. good luck

Totally agree with you - its not the losing the weight that the real problem - its keeping it off.  Well done you for keeping it off this time and for the great reply. I am sure it will inspire purplejo1979 :)

Hi Purplejo1979,

Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS community forum.  I hope you'll find plenty of inspiration here in the forum.  I agree with the suggestions to try the NHS 12 week plan, and I'd like to give you a link to our Welcome Newbie post:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Talking of inspirational stories, if you look at the person's profile who created that thread (i.e. moreless ) then you can read a really inspiring weight loss journey, she is doing brilliantly and I'm sure you'll meet her when she gets back from her holiday.

If you like the idea of a weekly weigh-in, then do join us for the Monday group weigh-in sessions - check out the latest thread in the Events section (right-hand-side of the homepage), and also the Pinned posts above the Events section are worth reading.  There are several Challenges going on currently, and so do join in with anything that you like the look of.

Wishing you a great week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

I think when I decided to lose weight, way back in 2012, ( I had done it before years ago), I did calorie counting and still do, herbal tea and being occupied, helped massively, I also planned two 100 cal snacks along with my meals.   Having them in my handbag did help and meant I didn't get too hungry.

I reminded myself that it would be a slow journey , and wanted my reward, to look good at my 50th party, I've since lost more weight, having had 3 phases this time.

Hi purplejo1979. There are some amazing weight loss stories on this forum. Lots of people having great success with the 12 week plan. I hope in reading them it gives you some inspiration and motivation. Try to look at the link that Lowcal sent you and maybe think of joining in the Monday weigh in. Everyone is so friendly and you don't feel like you are doing this alone.  Best of luck :)
