Hi there!

I found cutting out the carbs helped loads! Lost over 3 stone it took me a year buts all worth it! I came to a stand still recently so last week done a fad diet & lost 10lb in a week don't know if it's going to stay off though. I found using my fitness pal app helped too.

I hope this helps!

Hello

There are lots of different ways of losing weight, finding a way that suits you is a major help 😊

I follow a calorie controlled plan, but quite generous so I don't get hungry or feel deprived. However, I need a permanent solution so was not in a hurry 😕

Hope you find some answers

Good luck

Taking up a sport or hobby that gets you moving and keeps you away from the kitchen is probably the best aid to the calorie control needed to lose weight. Active sports like cycling or swimming will burn calories at a good rate. Running is good too, and hill-walking will work those muscles. Working out in a gym is good in winter months and on dark nights, and even dancing can burn a lot of calories if that is your thing! Don't forget that if you are very active, you might lose inches rather than pounds, whilst you are building stronger muscles, but your shape will definitely improve.

Hi,

Welcome to the group, first thing would be to take a look at the NHS12 week plan as most people tend to do fairly well with this.

I love my fitness pal and basically if you look up your base metabolic rate (NHS BMI should give you an indication and go about 200-300 less than the lower value shown I lost about 5kg in a month.

Also look up low calorie dense foods to bulk out meals and help you feel more full with less actual energy going in.

nutrition.org.uk/healthyliv...

Other than that just try not to snack on fatty/sugary foods and try to up your exercise and the weight will soon come off :)

Best of luck

Hi BRuffell,

I decided to follow the 12 weeks weight loss program from NHS a year ago. I have lost the weight I wanted to lose and have been so for nearly a year. I believe I will keep that way for ever because my lifestyle is now set in this way. It is not hard. It feels just normal. It works for me. I am fit, I am happy and contented, I do not have sore joints, my ankles are not swollen. I like planning my meals in advance and shopping accordingly.

I have cut down on carb. I still have some but not as much as before

I have cut down on sugar, very drastically! No added sugar.

I have cut down (very drastically) on Alcohol, and (completely) on soft drinks and juices.

I eat a lot of fish

I eat a lot of vegetables

I still treat myself. I play around with calories. If I pig out for a meal, I will have a zucchini soup for dinner or a plate full of vegetables. Somehow it balances itself out.

The 12 week plan teaches you to eat healthy. It is a very friendly and helpful group and it is FREE therefore can be trusted, not like any other diets who are flogging memberships or selling books. Some may be good but they just want you business.

Good luck, follow this forum and share your journey.

(It is a very satisfying feeling to wear your swimmers without trying to hide.... And be able to cross you legs when you sit down.... And be able to run 5k, 6 k, 8k 9k.... ) yep, I can do this 😀

best is to try everything once and find which way fit you best, will be different for everyone..

set little goal from cutting out chocolate to doing 20 squats a day just achieving little goal will make you feel great about your journey

i find calorie counting foods (traffic light system) -- 3/4 meals a day -- juice/flavored water (little amount of caffeine)

i don't cut out any main food groups that i eat "i always eat carbs"

built up exercise levels - start out at home - don't restrict food intake

Good luck :)

I've found not eating in the evening after I've had dinner is helpful. Difficult at first, but once you get into it surprisingly easy :-)
