If someone tells you please tell me :)!!

I'm exactly the same, no matter what I do, how healthy I eat, how good I am I just don't lose, even my weight watchers leader was totally stumped & couldn't tell me. I've had sweetener for years so don't really have sugar unless it's in food i'm eating already, I don't use oil or butter/marg, never really have done, eat wholegrain cereals, porridge, whole wheat pasta/rice & bread on the odd occasion that I have it. It's so blumming disheartening!!

I'm doing the C25K starting on week 4 tomorrow & although the scales are staying the same I can tell my body shape has changed slightly already so I'm trying to continue to eat healthily but to get fitter, toned & turn some of my fat to muscle!!

Sounds like all your hard work exercising is toning up your muscles which means the loss of body fat does not show on the scales - as your muscles probably weigh more than they used to - it all balances out.

However if you have body fat you can feel that you want to lose, then calorie counting is the best way forwards, using an app or online diary to keep track of your food and drink.

Hi Emma82, and also Vickyb5277,

Welcome to the forum! I'd recommend looking at our Welcome Newbie post - which a lovely forum member called Moreless has put together:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

You might find some pointers and tips to help you there, and also there is a Monday group weigh-in session that is very supportive too - so have a look at the latest link for that, and if you would like to join us there, you'd be very welcome.

You can still eat too much of the right foods emma, maybe if you check your portion sizes and calorie content, you may find your answer.

Good luck :)

Hi guys thank you

I have been dieting on & off for 39 years (well it feels that way haha) but only exercising (doing C25K) for 3 weeks so no it's definitely NOT fat converting to muscle hahaha.

Believe me I'm a pro at it, my Mum was a weight watchers consultant, her bosses couldn't even figure it out. The most I ever lose is 1.5-2 stone then it stops & I put a little back on & stay there. I'm 4ft 10" & size 14

I have done every diet that exists, legal & illegal pills & potions, wraps, creams, drops you name it. I have researched more stuff than Google holds. I know exactly what I should be having, how many calories etc etc I can tell you the syns, points & how much you should eat of every item in the supermarket & on a menu. I am a walking encyclopaedia of diets but it does not shift no matter what I do so no I am not going to continue spending my life on a diet & letting my life & moods/depression be dictated to me any more by those blumming scales & you know what? Since I decided that 3 weeks ago I am feeling great mentally & emotionally. I am still making good choices & don't feel I need to 'cheat'. If I want a biscuit I'll have one but if I want a banana then I'll have that too.

I will continue to healthy eat & while ever I'm not gaining weight then so be it.

I am going to learn to love me for me, size 14 & all & I don't care what anyone else thinks or says, it's me that needs to be happy for me not for everyone else :)

It's taken a long time to say that to myself & to anyone so here's to the new (happier) me!!

Good luck all

Remember you need protein and complex carbs more than you need simple carbs :)

I have protein & complex carbs with each meal. Chicken & cod loin are my main meats/fish with lots of veggies & small amounts of potatoes/pasta or rice. Don't get me wrong I'll have the odd piece of cake etc but I don't really have a sweet tooth. We don't have takeaways but do like the odd glass of red on a weekend. Can't live for society anymore I'm living for me & I feel so much better for it :)

14 is not big hun, not even for us little people. If you want to lose I suspect you could just cut out the simple carbs and sugar for a couple of weeks and drop a dress size easy.

However, you just be happy because you don't need to diet at size 14 :)

Boy, I wish I was a size 14 🙂, but I do understand it's all perspective, if you've always been a size 8, a size 14 is a jump of four sizes....... Best wishes, Trier x

The lowest I've ever been is a 12 top small 14 bottom which is why I've let dieting rule my life but no more. I wouldn't mind so much but it's my tummy that is so big it just get me so down but I have to learn to accept I've been like this my whole adult life xx

Such a positive post 😊 Well done on having such a good attitude 😊 Good luck getting fitter vickyb5257 😊

Emma82, like others have said, the only way to really tell is by counting calories, we only lose weight when we consume less than our body uses up. simple maths I'm afraid 😕 Many on here use myfitnesspal which works out how many calories you need to eat to lose weight. Because you already eat well, I suspect you just need a small tweak in your portion size. good luck! 😊

I always weigh before I cook, then work out my 'share' 😊 Just 100 calories a day less will make a difference 😊

My doctor told me to throw away the scales and only measure my waist etc as scales don't show the real weight loss, especially if your also building muscle etc.

He also told me bread is not our friend, better to cut it out and if you do eat it, not to eat more than 2 slices.

Hope this helps. :-)

It may be that the wholemeal bread/pasta are not a good choice of carbs for you. You may be eating too much fruit and therefore too much sugar.

Perhaps try alternative carbs like oats, brown rice, sweet potato
