The weight has to go!
Try cutting out foods with a lot is salt in. Mostly processed foods. These push you salt sugar receptors out if balance. You then yo yo between the two
Try to find something to distract you, take the dog for a walk, learn to play a musical instrument literally do anything to keep your mind occupied but make it something you will really enjoy so you want to do it. Secondly fins out a load of healthy snacks you can eat like grapes and carrot sticks and dips if these are less calories than your usual evening snack fix then your on your way to success also factor in an evening treat to your daily calorie allowence just make sure it doesn't trigger you to over indulge also remind yourself when you feel like going snack crazy why you are not gonna go snack crazy that loosing weight is way better than eating the treats
Hi have loads of protein for your nite meal and you won't be hungry, if you really want something sweet drink a sugar free soda, might help. Wishing you well.
Hi Jilly, I will wish you a Happy New Year now because you are not going to like the rest of what I say. I was born after the war and in Dublin, where I understand food was fashioned also. However; what I am mindful of is the health of the English people in these years, the best it's ever been. They didn't have an excess of food so they didn't put it in to themselves, more importantly they only put the right type of food in. This surely is the basis of any logic, it's a tried and tested system. Really what I'm telling you is it is only you that can get on top of this problem. Be clinical in your approach, if you have some of these poisons in your fridge, throw them out, all of them, don't give them to other people, poisoning them. You not only will feel better, you will see more money in your purse and with this money DONT buy biscuits or ice creams buy new clothes so now not only will you feel better but look better also. I'm sure you look wonderfully beautiful as you are and the chance to look even better. It's simply a no brainier. My apologies if I sound hard. Enjoy your day. James H.
Hi Jilly, Halpin and Janie have some good ideas! Also, don't beat yourself up for having enjoyed the Christmas holidays. We all need the holidays with family and friends. You don't write if you live with your family or are on your own. Make your needs known if you do cook for others too. Get a kitchen scale so that you can weigh the food - it will help with the calorie tallying.
If you don't have a regular exercise program, join a gym. No one is looking at you! They are all concentrating on their own progress. If a gym doesn't appeal, try walking everyday, first half an hour, then longer. Even if you live in an urban area, walking is exhilarating: gives your body a work-out, and your mind a break. This routine has changed my life. I now walk about 2-3 hours a day, even on work days. Am fortunate to live near a national forest, so that helps.
The sweet craving at night. What helps me is making smoothies. Use ordinary unsweetened yoghurt and cut it with water or ice cubes. Fruit- berries, bananas, mangos, pears - whatever. You might add a tiny bit of stevia, a natural sweetener with few calories, if you like the smoothie sweet. This concoction will add up to about 150 calories and is a nutritious reward. Happy holidays!
What works for me when I'm starting a diet is to play mind games on myself. I can't bring myself to throw food out whether it is healthy or not, so I pretend I am really poor and I won't be allowed to buy anything in the shops for the whole of January except fresh fruit and veg. I then have to make everything else in the house last a month or the equivalent of 1600 calorie days. When I get a sugar craving I have a glass of water and go for a 10 min walk, even if I have to put on full waterproof clothing. Its a bit like having an alcohol free January except for me it is a "buy no more food" January.
I know exactly as I crave super as well how about trying to drink some coconut water as it's good for you and it's sweet.
Furthermore Jilly, I replied to someone last week on this site and advised of a documentary I watched on the major diet companies. One of the companies is owned by Cadburys (funny that). A retired Chairman / CEO for one of these companies when asked was dieting successful, he replied, VERY, we made and make a lot of money from them . If they worked as the public wanted them to work, we would be out of business. Basically dieting does not work. You intake must simply be a what of life. James .
I lost 70 lbs being sick like this. I need to STOP loosing weight and gain weight.

If you can force yourself to go for a few days without you will stop craving it. Go for a walk instead, or have a mug of tea or coffee instead (with no sugar in it!)
