Joined 2 weeks ago and did OK the first week, losing 2lb. Last week, had to go away to help a friend move and then had grandchildren staying for 5 days, which was great. But no time to exercise and diet went up the pole. Off on holidayin two, weeks and nothing fits! aaaargh! Help!

Hi Dee65,

Well done for starting to tackle your weight to become and become more healthy. Life happens, grandchildren are a joy and it is good to help friends. Just remember healthy eating is a marathon not a sprint. Can you think of it in terms of prioritising your health rather than getting into holiday clothes? That way it becomes something you do all the time not for a few weeks before a holiday.

As hggirl has said, this is a marathon, not a sprint and some days it'll be easier than others. However, as a lifestyle change, it needs to be applied regardless of what else is happening in your life, it's all about rethinking how to achieve it successfully.

Steel your resolve and knuckle down and I'm sure you'll feel a difference by your holiday :)

Hi dee65. I agree with hggirl it has to be a long term plan and lifestyle change not a quick fix. Don't beat yourself up about a bad week things like this will happen you just have to accept it and just get back to plan as soon as you can. Focus on what was good about your week draw a line and move on. Do you have anything else cropping up before your holiday that might prove to be an obstacle. If you have someone told me that it's a good idea to ask on here for advice about how to deal with situations without going off plan to keep you motivated.

Hi Dee, life is full of these hiccups....have you got a trigger for over eating...are you a sugar lover? If you have a trigger, it becomes easier to avoid ....and enjoy the celebrations in life.

You sound a little like me - one small life event is enough for me to put on triple what I've lost in the week before! Now this is much easier said than done - but take a step back and think that if you carry on eating your clothes are only going to look worse and that temptation of I'm just going to start after my holiday now might be there but don't listen to it.

Sit down and plan your meals - use my fitness pal to control your intake try 1200 calories a day a slow burning breakfast, a light lunch and a nice dinner. Then plan your exercise around a time you will find it easy and keep telling yourself that you need to make/do the next session.

Doing this; At best you will lost weight and make progress, maybe you'll be back to the same you were at the end of week 1, maybe you'll stay the same. I promise you that by getting back to it you'll feel better that you will if you go back to eating too much again!

Thank you all for your support. I've been mor sensible today and will get back to walking tomorrow. Luckily the grandchildren seem to have eaten all the biscuits and cake so it will be easier to be good! I'm pretty good at eating healthier, just need to eat less of it and not sneak stuff in the kitchen when no-one is around!
