Hello everyone, my total goal is the lose 7 stone and so far i have hit my first maor target and lost 3! I am very happy and determined however I am worried that when I reach my goal, my skin will not go back. I am particularly worried about my arms and legs. I exercise so my friends tell me not to worry however I do. Does anyone know any hints/tips or exercises? Or am I worrying over nothing? Thank you !
Skin removal surgery : Hello everyone... - Weight Loss Support
Skin removal surgery
Hello. I am in a similar position to you weight loss wise but have a bit more than you to lose. So I can understand your concerns.
I wonder how your skin is holding up so far, some of mine is firmer than other bits - the arms are worst I think
I think it depends on how long you have been overweight and how young you are - the younger the better.
When I did research on it the advice was to take multi vitamins, use firming cream, drink lots of water and do some resistance exercises. This should all help.
I also understand it takes about 2 years for your skin to shrink back.
Unfortunately skin removal is not available on the NHS from what I can see.
Anyway, I hope that helps.
A massive well done for your loss so far
Congratulations on losing 3 stone.
Excess skin after weight loss depends on a number things, obviously how overweight you were and how long you were overweight for are key factors, things like age also play a role because skin is more likely to maintain it's elasticity when you are younger.
One thing I can tell you for certain is that if you have large amounts of actual excess skin from weight loss then it can't be corrected with exercise nor can it be removed with drugs, cream or potions although there are a number of people on the internet that would gladly get you to part with cash to prove the opposite. The only way to remove this kind of skin currently is through surgery and it can be a massive operation, often done in stages.
You can help improve the appearance of skin though, and minimise things like stretch marks by regularly using something like cocoa butter or if you can afford it Bio-Oil. Building muscle tone can also help with this.
Good luck with the rest of your journey.
I can't give you the advice that you need but i just wanted to say a really well done on the 3 stone and hope you get to the magic number 7 x
Good luck and keep it going x
As Olsbean said increasing your lean muscle mass can help keep you looking toned which in turn helps with excess skin.
I've just hit the 7 1/2 stone loss. I've got to day that although their are a couple of areas of loose skin, they are hardly noticeable and I'm not worried about it. It was a concern of mine but really has not been a problem.
I do exercise and do weights 4 times a week so I guess this has helped.
I did join a gym but found it easier to do at home. Got a cheap set of weights from Argos (£30) and do lots of reps with fairly light weights.
Each weights session I do 300 reps but this is split with various resting periods and some interval cardio training as well. I know it sounds a lot but will complete each session in no more than 50 minutes including both weights and cardio.
Check the Internet for videos on GVT German volume training and DTP dramatic transformation process. Also check Joe Wicks on u tube for a beginners high intensity interval training.
My fitness is unreal compared to what it was at the start of the year.
I signed up to Joe Wicks ( The body coach ) as it gave me structure with both food and exercise to follow at a time when I felt confused and lacking knowledge. Google him and have a look. I would highly recommend his 90 day plan as it worked for me and gave me the knowledge to continue eating well and exercising now I have finished it.
If you don't want to pay for the plan, then he and others have plenty of free advice on weight training and interval training.
Hope this reassures you a little.
Thank you for asking this Heidi, it's been a worry of mine too...so now I've got a few ideas! And huge congratulations on your success thus far😄
