Goal 1: reduce alcohol - tick.

Goal 2: reduce sugar.

As I have said in other posts I have been very poorly these last couple of days which has resulted in almost no sleep. I have used this time to read and reflect on my progress so far and my next goal.

I am a sugarholic, chocoholic ...I have absolutely to control or restraint around sweet stuff. As with alcohol (although I was not addicted to alcohol) I have the ability to eat an enormous amount of it.

I like to have 'something sweet' after my meals and with my tea breaks. This is always worse after Christmas when every cup of tea requires chocolate, cake or ...anything ....ANYTHING! Sweet.

So...tomorrow...just for one day....I will not consume any sugar. Just for Monday 25th Janaury. Just one thing. Just for the day.

Bakersdozen, or anyone else, want to join me?

Hello again.

Reducing my sugar intake was one of the first things I did - mainly cutting out chocolate biscuits.

I have a sweet tooth so no way I will ever stop eating chocolate but reducing is good.

I worked out I ate about 5 chocolate biscuits a day, probably about 1 bar of chocolate a day, I halved my sugar in coffee to one and usually ate about 1 iced finger a week and say 3 cans of full sugar coke a week - it was something like that anyway. I cut all those from my diet. That lot came to about 1.4kg of sugar a month! Scary isn't it?!

Obviously reducing your alcohol will make a big difference to your sugar intake too.

Good luck with Goal 2 :)

Thanks sueper I will give it my best shot.

I would hate to think what my sugar intake has been. Interesting to tot it up...gives you a clear visual of what you are piling in!

I will keep you posted!

I'm afraid where sugar is concerned, I don't have an off switch, or even a pause button! I have never been able to eat one chocolate and leave the rest, or one biscuit, or even one slice of cake. I would have to eat all and then search for more!

The only option for me was to go cold turkey, so from the 7th September last year, not one sugary thing has touched my lips.

I would never have thought it possible, but funnily enough, the longer you go without, the less you want it :)

All the best with your pledge and your ultimate goal :)

You see this is what I love about this site and all the people on it. Like sueper, moreless - you are a trailblazer. I am in awe. Almost 5 months!!

I have spent the night wondering if I really could do it...and here you are, having consumed sugar like me, now sugar free. It is possible!

So tomorrow...cold turkey.Just a day. Let's see!

Thank you for your story and support. 😊

That sounds like a good idea and quite timely as last evening I finished off the last of a box of Milk Try and a tin of Fox biscuits, so now is the perfect time for me to start. I won't wait til tomorrow though, I'll go for it from now. I'm already on a dry January so seem to have conquered the alcohol craving. I wish us both luck.

I agree if I start eating sweet stuff I will fold so I have cut it out since November and I don't get cravings now, space out your carbs so that you are never too hungry and make sure they are few, of slow release type, always leave something for the end of the day, just in case.

Well that's me done ...second sugar free day! Who would have thought it? 😊😀

Being poorly and not sleeping, I have done a lot of reading - sweet poison, I quit sugar and a strange one called something like 'OMG I quit sugar and didn't kill anyone'?! So feeling better equipped.

Almost messed up without thinking today. Went to pick up prescription and without thinking I started to reach for a cream egg...well, am not eating really so it will be fine, my head was saying. Just short of it I stopped and withdrew because today I pledged I would be sugar free for just one more day.

Phew! That was close!!😰

So tomorrow's pledge...sugar free for just one more day. That will make 3 days and almost half a week!
