Hi gothchick
Good luck with it all - you'll find loads of support on here. There's a weigh in thread run on a Monday by the lovely Lowcal, who takes so much of her time to congratulate/commiserate with everyone on a Monday morning.
Lots of people recommend keeping track of calories/exercise on something like myfitnesspal.
Dave1961 will keep you motivated with lots of posts involving an alarming amount of exercise and CAPITAL LETTERS.
Have fun and I love the hair
thanks lucca10.. thanks for the support much appreciated
Hi gothchick, also loving the profile pic. Lots of people on here working weird shifts too. Yes just get reading the plan, I also downloaded it and printed it all out at the start. I like the way it introduces something new each week. It feels more gradual that way, making changes that are sustainable and don't feel like a punishment or unachievable. I recommend thinking about what your healthy snacks will be, esp as you're doing night shifts. I like knowing ahead what and when my snacks will be, keeps me going between meals and removes temptation from less healthy choices around you. Lots of luck and look out for Dave's capital letters. Also recommend joining Lowcal's Monday thread. You can join anytime during the day.
thanks hunny xx
Hi Gothchick,
Welcome, and if you do decide you'd like to join in the Monday weigh-in thread, like Lucca and Ruth say, you'd be very welcome! It's a great group of people there, and we all encourage and support one another.
Hope you have a lovely weekend. Good luck with the 12 week plan, it's really good.
Hope to see you around and about on the forum, and maybe in the Monday weigh-in, if you want to join in with that.
Lowcal
that wud be great.. how do i join ?
Hi Gothchick,
I post the Monday weigh-in thread before 7am every Monday, and it always has the following title "Please Join Me for a Monday Weigh-in" and the current date follows in brackets, so look out for the one dated 24th August, as that will be the next one.
It would be great if you join us, and I'll look forward to hearing from you within that thread on Monday. Good luck in the meantime! Hope you have a great weekend.
Lowcal
Hello & welcome we were all new once but this is such a friendly place with a lot of helpful, knowledgeable people full of encouragement.
Good luck .. I totally agree with downloading My Fitness Pal (I think I'm a little obsessed with it!) because it certainly keeps you accountable if you note everything you have eaten/drunk. Meal planning also works wonders which includes making a shopping list & sticking with it
Keep reading the forum over the weekend & you will feel prepared for Monday.
Hi gothchick, warm welcome. Any support you need, you will find on here hun. Some fab people and really inspiring posts ( some very funny ones too!) I work permanent nightshifts, have done for 4 years now, so if there is anything I can help you with just holler, and if I can help I will. Have a fabby first week 😊
Hiya and welcome!
So great to see anew face round here and awesome you have decided to do something about getting fitter.
A few things I would recommend - I have time and time again tried to lose weight and I am finally realising you just have to use every tool you can get your hands on!
Myfitnesspal (has someone already been selling this to you?) is a fantastic little app for counting calories and I really think you DO (yes I am THAT Dave! ) have to count calories to start with. We have gotten bigger because we have lost touch with how calorie dense food is, what a normal portion size should be and not getting off the couch enough.
Anyway - it scans barcodes, imports recipes from the web - its AWESOME! And its FREE!
It also of course helps you with portion control because it assigns you a calorie goal based on activity, height, weight, eye colour (well - that last one maybe a stretch and then lets you know how you are going as you log your food.
If you can afford it something like a Fitbit is (I think) fantastic. It talks to Myfitnesspal so both of them know how many calories you have had, how many you have burned and how many you have left - it can get kind of stalkerish...but GOOD stalkerish lol
You can set it to any number as your goal steps but I just stick to the 10,000 and have a little smile when I get into 13 or 14 thousand most days.
I think as humans we tend to be a bit goal driven and when you have these calorie and step goals it can help to keep you motivated.
Well done for making the change. You will find loads of support on this site in fact sometimes it's what keeps me going.
Good reading on them night shifts and good luck for the coming week.
