It's the first week of my diet and so far it's been okay, but the weekend is coming upon me and I'm dreading a confrontation with the Chocolate and Alcohol monster.

Change the type of chocolate and alcohol you have - it's working for me - much better than completely denying myself, which just makes me want it more. I alternate virgin/bloody marys with big sticks of celery that I make myself munch through. Maybe find your own lower calorie alternative - spritzers, tonic without the gin, shandy instead of straight beer... Also I've been getting myself very dark chocolate, so dark you feel clogged with the richness of it, and naturally find yourself having less (e.g. Lindt 85%!). I put a square or two on a plate with a few raisins and try to take my time over it. It's not easy but you can sort of start to fool yourself, and eventually (hopefully) adopt these things as better habits...
Good ideas from Ruth for you to try out. Also try having sparkling water with ice and lemon or lime, I find this is refreshing and look like a proper drink.
If you need a chocolate hit what about having a low cal hot chocolate drink, it works for me.
