Yay Aileen50 and well done you! I started my weight loss journey at the ago of 49... but as we get older, the risk of long term illness increases and this isn't helped at all by eating rubbish and carrying around additional weight!
I do a lot of free courses on-line with Future Learn, and found this one particularly informative:
Welcome. A great time to start, it really is never too late.
I tackled my eating/drinking habits in my early sixties. I have since lost 2.5 stone and now find I prefer healthier foods and smaller portions. BUT, I still have anything I want if I really want it ( not often, just an odd dessert or cake) .
In the old days I used to drink wine every night. Nowadays I'm happy with a cup of tea and only have alcohol on a weekend when socialising. The best part of this is I'm now 65, more active, lower BP, I can walk further, I love my smaller clothes, and I feel and look younger than I did at 60.
So come aboard. Welcome to the New You club 😀
To much wine is my main problem to easy to open that bottle at tea time then find it,s empty I was a pub landlady for over 20 years so it,s a habit I intend to break
Yes it may not be easy. My partner, whom I met age 55, came from a big pub culture in Wales and was a daily drinker all his life. But he too has cut back to just 1 or 2 days a week simply by changing our weekday routine. On rugby days he let's his hair down and usually feels grotty afterwards.. the body will soon adapt and it will definitely help reduce the pounds.
Thanks
You might find some tips on the Drink Awareness website. We got one of their unit/mls measure tumblers, and had a shock how much we poured out. I now only ever order 125 ml measures (100 cals ) or a Gin &slimline ( 70.)
