Hi, I'm trying to lose weight for both health and vanity reasons. I suffered from an ED when I was a teenager and been extremely carefully not to go down the same path. I got out of a relationship in September last year and decided to lose weight because while I was in a abusing relationship I was sad, angry and turned to food for comfort. Finally he hit me for the last time last September and I walked away. When I got on the scales I was shocked and horrified that I had let myself go so badly π³. I went up to just over 15 stone I was so ashamed of myself. Since then I'm now 11 stone and 7 ibs at 5' 7 . I want to lose ideally another 21 ibs. But would be happy if I lose another 14ibs. I would love someone to help buddy me and give me some support. I've never been stick thin and was bullied badly at school even though I was told by my dr I wasn't overweight but ended up going downhill and developing an ED. I just don't want to get out of control again. Can anyone give me some advice as it's always harder to lose as you get closer to your goal. I'm vegetarian and keep my calorie intake to between 1400-1500 a day

Former eating disorder woman just out of abusive relationship trying to lose weight..... But not fall back into old eating habits... π
Hi there, I'm the same height and weight as you at the moment, I'm on week 8 of the NHS weight loss plan and use MyFitnessPal to log calories ... I'm excited to see how much I can lose over the 12 weeks! I can honestly say that I feel focused and in control, I wondered how it would be and have amazed myself by sticking to it ... For me it has definitely been about learning a new pattern, but it's very achievable ... Good luck on your journey πΈ
Hi babylegion, welcome to the forum, you're in good company here with lots of people who understand the struggles of weight management.
I'm sorry you have been through such a hard time, abusers be it physical or emotional are scum and ruin others' lives because of their own insecurities, I have known one myself. You seem to have come through the other side and are taking back control of your life and health. I can relate to your emotional relationship with food, it's so hard to find a balance. You have done a fab job already to lose 3and a half stone, wow! ππ sounds like you are keeping in a sensible range of calories, are you doing any exercise as this could help you keep losing as you get closer to your goal? I think if you look on it in terms of staying healthy and taking care of yourself you will be less likely to return to your ED habits.
I wish you the best of luck with your remaining weight loss and look forward to hearing how you get on πΈ
Thanks Anna π I'll keep everyone updated hope your journey is going well x
Hi I have recently started the nhs health plan, I have cut out all sugary snaks, junk food, takeaway and am just drinking water and 2-3 cups of tea and keeping my calories under 1300.
I have only been doing it a week and I can already feel a difference, where as before I would just pick up a bit of chocolate I think to my self do I need it? Am I hungry? And if I am hungry I will drink a pint of water then give it 10 minutes and ask myself again. I don't feel sluggish or tired.
Have also loss 9lb in my first week, could be water, but try and identifi what your bad habits are and try and replace them with new ones. I find reading through the posts help.
Thanks samryan. I'll go through my diary and try and see where I can improve. Congrats on your first week. I'll be crossing my fingers for us all. Keep me updated on your loss x
Welcome, I hope you find what you need in this community. You'll find many motivational posts here! Start by dowloading an app on your phone to keep track of calories (Fat Secret, My Fitness Pal...), it's a great aid! Good luck!
Hi well done you-- I know how you're feeling about control and emotional eating. I've just set up a forum specifically for the "psychological" aspects of over eating --it's called making friends with food. Set it up today and looking for some like minded people to join me.
Advice I'd give you right now is to visualise your goal. Visualise what it will feel like; how you will feel; what you'll wear. Remind yourself of the reasons why you're doing this. And above all Be your own Best friend. Visualise being in control as well: I read something yesterday about mindfulness and eating. It said that if you're reaching for a comfort snack say out loud to yourself "I'm reaching for these chocolate biscuits and I'm going to eat the whole packet." Apparently if you say it out loud you become mindful of your actions.
Haven't tried it but I will.
Meanwhile my new site is facebook.com/groups/makingf...
Take care and Be Good to Yourself!
