Well I weighed myself today not expecting much as I've been out for 2 meals this week.

I've lost 2.5 lbs. total 11 lbs in 2 weeks.

Amazing, must have been more careful than I thought.

Bonjour.I have just joined this forum and would like to join the Friday weigh in if that's ok.

I've started at 80 kgs (12stone 8lbs) and my first goal is 76 kgs which will take me away from the 'obese' title they put on my records here, true but not a nice thing to see. Trying the 5:2 approach from the Horizon programme and hoping this forum will help keep me motivated too.

scottishmarje in reply toGillian2

You are very welcome.

We are all here with the same or similar problems involving weight issues.

Are you a "Feaster " ?? I'm an "Emotional Eater". I'm trying the low calorie diet.

Let me know how you get on with the 5:2 diet.

Bonsoir. Whe I did the test, I was a constant craver...and soooo true. I do think about food all the time. I'm a foodie nd I love cooking. This is my second week. I need to dig out some recipes for the two days cos I will get bored. It's doing me good to actually look up the calorie values and write it down. I'm very good at overlooking some foods!!!how are you finding the calorie counting?

scottishmarje profile image
scottishmarje in reply toGillian2

I don't have any problem with it as I use My Fitness Pal / website app which does most of the work for me.

My problem is I am an emotional eater and I have a VERY VERY stressful day coming up on Sat. My stepfamily are coming for my daughter's 21st and I dread seeing them.

Usually by now I would have binged big time starting about 3 weeks beforehand so something has changed.

That Horizon programme was helpful for different types of people with weight issues.

Did you see it ??

Keep in touch

Gillian2 in reply toscottishmarje

Hey...well done for not binge eating. Days like that are tricky and it is easier to comfort eat so you are doing brill!

Yes, I watched the programmes. I watched all 3 together when I discovered them. Fascinating information and good to see the science bit coming in.

I've just finished the second day of my 2 low calorie days and now thinking about the smell of toast for breakfast!! Ha ha! I am definitely a constant craver.

Are they here for the day or the weekend?

scottishmarje profile image
scottishmarje in reply toGillian2

Well done,

Yes the smell of toast is inviting, depends what you have on it. I like low fat spread and Bovril. Peanut butter is divine !!!

Does distracting yourself help ??

If I keep myself busy I'm better at adhering to my daily allowance.

They're coming for the day, which will seem for ever !!

I know I will have put on weight this week with 2 meals out as well as the family "do". Just get back on again and keep going. It's a long journey I'm on.

Gillian2 profile image
Gillian2 in reply toscottishmarje

How can I get so excited about a piece of toast? I love peanut butter too...I make a lot of different jams and only use 50per cent sugar to fruit, The French way is more of a confit and it is much nicer, fruitier so I don't feel too bad when I have it. I use lemon juice to help it set.

I always, always find meals out tricky. I have very little will power so if you even thought about what you were choosing you will have done well in my eyes. My only achievement is to share a pudding!

The distraction idea really got me thinking. I have dead headed my indoor plants, tried to plug the mole hole hole and cut my husband's hair! But it is good idea. My house and garden will be perfect!

P.s. I wrote this instead of having a glass of wine.

Salut (water)

And thank tou for chatting with me...it really helps. You have a positive but realistic approach and your journey is going to be a successful one.

scottishmarje profile image
scottishmarje in reply toGillian2

Thanks.

I don't feel I deserve that, I am just trying to cope with every day living and issues that crop up on the way.

Yes French confiture is much nicer.

Good for you thinking of sharing a pudding and not having that glass of wine.

I'm the sort who would write and sip my wine while doing it !!!

My meal last night was at a friend's so it was fairly healthy ( except for the low alcohol wine ).

Not so good at the Italian restaurant !! I did have sorbet for a dessert and mussels for a starter but went askew in between !!

Still exercising, walked the dogs before work today.

Take care

Gillian2 in reply toscottishmarje

Sorbet for dessert is a good idea. Will look for that next time and sea food is always on the menus here, thank goodness.

Today is my first weigh day and I lost 1.5 kgs so I'm pleased but I have had to work to achieve that. I need to count more carefully and not guess.

I hope all goes well tomorrow and after it all ends too cos that can be tricky. Have a lovely time.

Plenty more to go, just keep going.

Thanks,

My daughter is home for the weekend so tomorrow we're going on a longer walk !!

My pace is a lot slower than hers so I'm not sure how it will work out. Have to give it a try.

How are you doing ??

DoniMac profile image

Brilliant Marge, well done, it looks like once you start to become aware of what is in food, you automatically can work out how to avoid getting too many claymores,,,,sorry calories.....the spell check gets carried away.

That is a great experience.

scottishmarje profile image
scottishmarje in reply toDoniMac

Thank you.

I am trying to consider healthy options today as yesterday I went over my limit.

A longer walk with my dogs should help as well.

How are you doing ?

DoniMac profile image
DoniMac in reply toscottishmarje

Hi Scottishmarje, glad you have some dogs to walk, that must be good fun. I am getting there slowly, lost 1kg in Week one of the 12 week challenge, still trying to organise some exercise, running did my knees in very quickly, they swelled up and became painful, but Tired Doc suggested some careful squat and Penel suggested some walking Aqua-fitness, so will put those two ideas together and give it a go. Pretty hard to find time for any exercise with full time work, but if TiredDoc can do it with her work load, I'll fit it in.

I am still counting the calories and being more knowledgeable about what calories are in the food I'm eating, it helps a lot, much more than anything else I have tried to lose weight with.

Have a good walk, cheers

scottishmarje profile image
scottishmarje in reply toDoniMac

Well done losing 1kg.

Sometimes we have to work within our limits. This morning I got on the treadmill and thought I would go for 20 mins. My knees said no so I managed 15 mins.

Walking the dogs this morning and going swimming as I'm going for a meal with a friend tonight.

The suggestions made sound sensible.

My hubby has assembled my exercise bike, so this week I MUST try it out !!

Pretty boring so I will have to either listen to music or watch something on my ipad.

Keep going it'll be worth it.

DoniMac in reply toscottishmarje

Well done ScottishMarje, I agree I still have not got off the couch to do the Couch to 5k, knees playing up and feet not too happy, and still have to get into the pool. I have another plan as well, while your on your bike I might try a rowing machine, that will be good exercise without the weight on my knees. Would be good to have dogs to walk though. Yes I'm still going, how much did you lose last week> take care anf enjoy the walks,

Thanks ,

How are you doing ??

I've 2 meals out this week so I am trying to be careful before and after. Have to make sure I exercise a bit more as well.

DoniMac profile image
DoniMac in reply toscottishmarje

Hi glad to hear you are going Ok. I had a set back with the Couch to 5k program, it lasted 1 minute, then decided to do the walking, that was going Ok, then decided to do the jogging, and that knocked my knee up so much I did not do anything for a few days till the swelling went down.

But back on track now, how id you go this Friday with your weigh-in

scottishmarje profile image
scottishmarje

Well,

I got on the scales this morning not expecting much and I'd managed to lose 0.75 lb. Total loss now11.75lbs.

I am amazed what with 2 meals out this week. I must have done enough exercise and perhaps made more healthy choices than I thought.

This coming week will be another challenging one as I have my daughter's 21st and 2 meals out.

Here's hoping !!

Hi Scottishmarje, how did you go this week in your weigh in? I did mine today and have lost 1kg and 8cms off my waist, so did OK. But want to do better next week. I slipped up on Friday and that started the old food cravings, but got them under control now and want to do better next week.

How did you go, how is the weather over there? I'm working in the tropics working near PNG and it is hot. But I started the exercise plan this week, two days ago, tried the running but after one minute my knees hurt too much so stooped that, and did a 20 minute brisk walk, felt good, knees held up and I was inside before it got too hot. Then today did 10 minutes on the rowing machine, so have started an exercise plan. Although I wont be doing the Couch to 5k, I'll leave that for the younger kids like 69 year old Turnturtle running her heart off in NZ. May the force be with her, whereas I'm more like "beam me up Scottie" when i try to run. So how are you going this week?

scottishmarje profile image
scottishmarje in reply toDoniMac

Well done losing Kg.

Well, an enjoyable week, but not regarding my weight !!

I enjoyed too much food and drink at my daughter's 21st at the weekend and then last night had a drunken night out with my best friend so again ate and drank too much of the wrong things!!

Today is another day and I am eating and exercising healthily, so back to healthy lifestyle.

Take care

scottishmarje profile image
scottishmarje

I weighed myself on Friday and I have now lost 13.75 lbs, nearly a stone.

Meal out at the weekend but I am now back on track, so I am hoping to lose the weight put on then.

Typical my husband has a tummy bug today and will lose weight even though he doesn't want to poor thing. I could do with something drastic just for a day, a kick start !! Anyway I'll just keep going.

scottishmarje profile image
scottishmarje

Weighed in last Friday and I lost 13.75 lbs on week 4.

Now have to lose the 1.5lb I put on at the weekend !!!

scottishmarje profile image
scottishmarje

Another Friday weigh in WEEK 8. Lost 1.5 lbs, TOTAL 18 LBS. Nearly at my next 7 lb goal / 1.5 stone.

This coming week should be ok as I'm not out for any meals nor anyone round for one.

My son and daughter are home for the weekend but are eating healthily and exercising so are a support.

My husband is slim and always eats healthily and exercises so I am the only one with the weight problem.

Menu for this coming week planned.

Oops got on the scales and I have put a pound on , weight loss 17 lbs !! I know why and what to do about it.

Only problem is it's my wedding anniversary today so going out for a meal tonight and tomorrow I have a big function to go to where I am unable to chose what I eat other than not eating dessert.

I will make a concerted effort from Sunday .
