At my doctors surgery they have trained 2 nurses to help patients to lose weight. One of the things they tell you is that your hands are your plate one hand is your vegetables so half your plate is vegetables, the parm of your other hand is the size of your meat, and your fingers are for potatoes etc. Hope that would be a help

The Daily Mail will be running a week of articles about the 5:2 Diet in the New Year. I had a makeover and photoshoot for it last Saturday morning - :) If you want to know about it before then then a great start is by watching the original documentary, "Eat, Fast and Live Longer" which is on iPlayer or Disclose.tv - it honestly changed my life.

After watching the programme I started eating from smaller plates and stopped nibbling in the evenings but I wasn't sure what to do until Kate Harrison brought out her book "The 5:2 Diet" in October 2012. By April 2013 I'd lost three stone! Best of all the weight has stayed off ever since by just 'fasting' (500 calories) once a week.

Lots of help& advice on this site. My tips are to plan all your meals, calorie count, use smaller plates, don't get too hungry and exercise more. C25k is really good and has a very encouraging forum.healthunlocked.com/couchto5k

good luck with your journey.
