Hi everybody, I'm Jenn 24 just new on here thought I'd say hi. I feel like I constantly am stopping myself from losing weight by having little self control when temptation is around. I think this is due to being addicted to sweet treats. Does anyone have any tips on how to quit sugar? And avoid temptation? X

Hi Jenn,

Welcome, I also had the same problem!! you will feel less temptation to go for sugary filled foods if you diet is well balanced and you don't feel starving at any particular point during the day...a useful tip that has helped me loads.

I guess it depends on your particular choice of poison.....

I let myself have a little piece of chocolate and even icecream if it fits within my calories for the day about twice a week.

I tend to get a sweet fruit like melon and chop that up into bite sized chunks, makes for a quick and sweet snack that satisfies my urge for sugar and at least its full of natural sugars not processed, but you still have to watch your portion size.

You can get little packs of assorted freeze dried fruits which arent too bad as a snack also.

The main thing I would say to you is don't punish yourself to loose weight, if you can plan your meals out then there is always room for a treat, its all about balance and making sure that you give and take with your calories and the breakdown of them i.e. fats / carbs / protein.

If you are not already using myfitnesspal, then I would strongly reccommend you check it out. It is a great tool that can allow you to log your food as you go and it can help you stay aware of what you are consuming. I also find it useful when doing the weekly shop as you can scan barcodes and instantly see how it would fit into your daily calories.

Hi Jenn,

I believe that I am actually addicted to sugar,

When I first started dieting I choose to eat a lot of sweet things like Mangoes, papaya's and advocadoes, and Permission.

Let me tell you that I really looked forward to eating permission last thing in the evening.

7 months later I am a bit better now, I am quite happy with the sweetness of satsumas and grapes but as permission is not at my local superstore I eat 2 (two) Medjool Dates at the end of the day.

I find that little bit of sweetness gets me through the night.

hope that helps as it works for me.

Hi Jenn. I am new here too. What I hope is when I have a craving i will come on here & answer a post to keep my fingers busy & try to take my mind off my craving. I have just (yesterday) bought loads of fruit & will snack on that instead of chocs, plus i kept away from the crisp & choc isle. Saved some money too by not going there! Best Wishes Jules :)

Self control, but if it were that easy there would be no sites like this. I have to make an effort to steer away from the treats aisle. As i have problems with artificial sweeteners i cant really go for sugar free stuff, i have to cut it out, and boy do i look forward to Sunday afternoons when i indulge once a week.

Hugs and much luck.
