Theres a fitness app for mobile phones and also on the internet called myfitnesspal which i would recommend. as for books, the information tends to vary in a lot of them.
If you really want a book look for something that lists the GI (Glyciemic Index) of the food as this is a good place to start. GI is how quickly the food you eat is processed into glucose and used by your body,,, the lower the GI the fuller you will stay for longer. Author is Rick Gallop.
I have a wee book called 'Pocket Calorie Counter' by Carolyn Humphries. It list foods/calories in sensible quantities and I got it from Amazon.
