Completely normal, nothing to worry about, just focus on the weight you've lost rather than giving up and going back to bad habits. the weight will start coming off again. Try less fruit as it tends to be higher in sugar than people think, veg is much better. How much exercising are you doing? Could you find time to squeeze in a bit more? Also, I find that the last little bit is the hardest to shift so don't put too much pressure on yourself, you've lost a lot already
Hi pastort,
The more body mass you have, the more calories you need to maintain it. So, as your body mass decreases, eating your 1500, 2000 or whatever calories a day will be less of a 'calorie deficit' for your slimmer/lighter body than it will be for the fatter body you started with.
It's quite common to hit a bit of a plateau at some point in your weight loss journey - it's all just part of the ups and downs of the ride. And it seems to happen quite a bit as people are nearing their target weight - it did to me too.
I'd suggest doing nothing much at first, and just see what happens, you might just start losing weight again. Lots of things can have an impact on your hormones and cause a 'blip' in your weight loss process - sleeplessness, stress, having an infection like a cold, etc., etc. Such 'blips' do not mean your eating and exercise regime is wrong or isn't working overall.
If the problem doesn't just pass of its own accord then I'd suggest slightly reducing your calorie intake and slightly upping your exercise / activity level.
See what effect that has, and if you start losing weight again at too fast a rate, then pedal back a bit on those changes.
Hey and give yourself a big pat on the back - you've lost three stones!
Hi pastort - Great work so far! My weight loss has plateaued in the last couple of weeks too. But I've discovered I'm still losing body fat at a good rate (the Boots scales tell you your BF%) and my waist is shrinking a little too. So you might look at other ways of measuring progress to remind yourself of the benefits of all your efforts. Good luck!
I agree with much of the above. If it is not working - reassess, just like you would in a work situation. What you were doing was fine when you weighed more. Reduce sugar, possibly cut out some fruits and replace with veg, nuts, seeds and legumes. You can obviously cope with upgrading your exercise regime and possibly aim to build more muscle. Sounds as though you have done very well. You should be very proud, it is a great achievement. Keeping it off and learning to eat healthily all of the time will be a challenge, until it becomes a way of life.
