A stone is 14 pounds (lbs) or30.8 kilos
Hi alejandra,
The one I remember is that a kg is 2.2 lbs - near as doesn't matter. But, like everything else these days, there are various conversion web-sites (just put something like 'kilogram to pounds conversion' into a search engine), and theirs apps too!
Good luck with your weight loss efforts.
Well done for starting Alejandra. You can use kilos but most in the UK understand stones or pounds. I know I lost 42 pounds which is over 19 kilos in six months! If you just put into Google (say) 80 kilos in pounds, it will come up with the answer 176.37 (ignore the .37) which is 12 stone (168 pounds) 8 pounds.
Wow! How did you keep motivated to lose so much? And thanks for the answer
Hi Alejandra. In August 2012 I watched a brilliant BBC Horizon programme which changed my life. It was called "Eat, Fast and Live Longer" vimeo.com/54089463 and it lead to Kate Harrison writing her book called The 5:2 Diet. There are some excellent Facebook groups - I belong to one called 5:2 for Life and Health - and we kept each other motivated, and then watched everyone having superb results! Not only that, their different medical conditions have so much improved as their weight has lessened. I used to have painful knees and they hurt climbing or descending stairs and I had no energy at all and used to have to have a nap in the afternoons, but a year ago I started running, doing the NHS Couch to 5K learn to run programme, and now I run three times a week. I hated running at school and I'm now 64!
Hi Alejandra
I too plan on starting tomorrow, Monday 24 February.
I think we just start. If there is a way of specifically joining the weigh-in and marking the start of a 12-week programme, perhaps someone will tell us.
Or maybe we should just post the weight each Monday
I hope someone tells us
Maybe we just have to post our weight each Monday. I have found it really hard to keep motivated lately. I hope this will help.
Hi.
I also plan to start the 12 week plan on 24.2.14. I joined the group to help keep me motivated as I keep having spurts of being really good and then thinking a few treats won't hurt...which they do! The NHS BMI says I need to lose 2st 7lbs which I think is a bit more than I want to lose but a good guide to aim for I guess. Good luck to everyone for the start of our new habits!
Hi I need to do the weekly Monday weigh in too. I have to lose 3 stone (40 pounds Alejandra) and would like to have a groups working on it at the same time. It would be good to have support. Where do you live Alejandra? I am an American that has moved to the UK so struggle with the weight conversions. Maybe those starting that week can find out if there is any specific group.
Thanks for answering about how much a stone is. I guess it's really Brittish. I had never heard of a stone until I joined this forum and I have been to England
I used to live in the US but now I live in Argentina. One kilo is 2.2 pounds.
It would be nice to have a group to weigh in with on Mondays because lately I can't lose any weight.
It's hard to stay on a diet.
To keep motivated
I hope someone can tell us how to join or form a group
I lost three stone in six months (42 pounds). I'll answer Alejandra's post above with how I did it, and, more importantly, have kept the weight off since April last year.
that is my problem I lost weight and was down to 150 and then meet a wonderful man that likes to feed me. I also had a round of steroids for a health issue and now I am back at square one. It's great that you have kept the weight off.
I'm only 130 pounds now - used to be 172 pounds. I love the 5:2 Diet as it fits in around your life so well - it's only two days a week. Tell your wonderful man that what he's actually doing is trying to kill you and sit him down and both of you watch that programme! I know many men who've found it fantastic and have totally transformed their lives.
we are working on portion control since he didn't feel I ate enough before. He is working with me now
The first thing I took from watching the programme was to eat less than I was eating so I started to eat from smaller plates and stopped snacking and eating after my evening meal. I'd already lost seven or so pounds by the time I read Kate's book in the November. It's on Kindle if you have one or you can get it as a paperback tinyurl.com/p85yccd
Hello everyone! Sundays are my weigh in days as a friend and I get together to weigh ourselves. We've had a couple of rough weeks with me being in hospital but now I'm ready to get busy again. We've decided to start over with the 12 week plan. So soon I'm off for a walk to meet my friend then we'll go to her place and weigh in. I'm feeling very positive. Maybe that has something to do with the Spring-like weather? Good luck to us all!
Good luck Swedegal. Looks like a very well equipped gym you've got to exercise in. I'm jus using my exercise bike at home.
Hej Anthony! Thank you, you too. I go to the gym where I started as an outpatient after surgery. It's not the biggest gym but all are friendly and encouraging. An exercise bike at home is a good start Anthony, you can do so much at home even without all the weights or machines. The main thing is to get moving!
I did 40 minutes on the bike last evening with 2 lots of 10 mins and one lot of 20 mins. Apart from walking its the only exercise I can stick with regularly.
6.350 Kilos. I use Google, usually good.
Oh yes, I'm down from 294 lbs to 292.8, not a huge difference but I'll take it!
