Its been said many times im sure but after years of trying (and failing) on numerous diets I have decided im going to try and lose weight sensibly following this healthy and active plan. Im worried ill lose motivation or 'fail' at this too but I really am going to give this everything ive got and I hope that I can finally conquer my overeating demons! Any support and advice is very welcme!! Thank you

Hello! One thing that has really helped me is the my fitness pal app - you log what you eat (it's really easy, you just scan barcodes) and it tells you how many more calories you are allowed on that day. You can record exercise and it changes your calorie allowance based on how much activity you do. That and committing to post my weight weekly on here are really helping with my motivation. Very good luck to you - keep us up to date with how you get on!

Part of it is a change in mindset which you have done. It is not a diet but a plan. My advice is to plan meals so you know what you are having, use smaller plates and don't get too hungry as you may then binge.

I have a wee calorie counter book which I use to work out my calories then put them on a spreadsheet to add up.

I am a bit puzzled about the bar code scanning of myfitness pal. Most of my food doesn't have barcodes?

Good luck with your journey

MyFitnessPal is a brilliant free phone app or website and saves the bother of having a calorie counter book. You just put in whatever food or ingredient you're using - it has a huge database of UK foods - and it calculates it for you and tells you how many calories you have left for the day. You can add your own recipes for meals you have often. When you first start using it you put in your height, current weight etc and it calculates all of that and you can change your weight as you lose. The barcodes part is obviously just for foods that have barcodes!

I agree with both the two previous replies. MyFitnessPal is brilliant.

Please watch this amazing BBC Horizon programme which changed my life (vimeo.com/54089463) which is called "Eat, Fast and Live Longer." It's the first ever diet where I lost weight and have kept it off since April last year. I lost three stone in six months and aimed at being a size 12 again but I've ended up a size 10 for the first time since my teens!
