Hi

I had the same problem last year so went looking for inspiration and motivation on line. Found loads of free online fitness programs but one that stood out was ptprograms.com.au. It easy to use, free downloads, and it helped take the thinking out of what to do. Good variet as well

Good luck with it

Hi I am 57 years young and weight 13 stone very interested in how you lost you're weight

Hi

I think the main learning for me was that its all about understanding calorie intake and calorie burn. So long as you are burning more than you intake the weight will come off.

1) write yourself a good diet plan for the week, there's loads you can download

2) go to ptprgrams.com.au on line and download a program to suit you, there are quite a few to choose from but there's more specific programs under the paid membership. its pretty cheap.

3) the most important part is to write you weekly plan down and stick to it. its a good feeling at the end of the week when you can see your achievements

hope this is of some help. let me know how you go

its always hard to get started so just start off slowly and build on it. Once you get into it and start seeing the results it will just become a natural part of your life and not so much a burden

good luck with it

I lost three stone on the 5:2 Diet in six months and it didn't cost me anything - certainly no slimming club fees or special diet foods. It's based on the brilliant BBC Horizon programme that aired in August 2012, "Eat, Fast and Live Longer" (vimeo.com/54089463) and Kate Harrison's subsequent book, "The 5:2 Diet" which is an excellent read and very cheap on Kindle. The best part about it is that I'd lost the weight by April and have since kept it off. There are excellent supportive 5:2 groups on Facebook with amazing success stories. Good luck, and well done for thinking about losing weight.

Yes I agree, fasting is the best because surprisingly it re-energies you and cleanses your body so you feel so fresh and alive. I have fasted in Ramadan and I feel so great after it! A whole long month of low calories seems like it might be damaging to the body but it is actually good because it gives your body time to rest (instead of always running all day long;working hard to digest the truckloads of food we gorge on).

also, if you research the prophets' (pbuh) life, he practiced the 5:2 all year long. He fasted on Monday's and Thursday's.

I so admire Muslims during Ramadan. I can manage fasting very well as I drink plenty, but to have to go without water as well must be very difficult for you, especially hot summer ones. Kudos to you.

Hi luv, im not on a diet per se and wouldnt recommend diets. I honestly believe in a little of what you fancy does you good - together with being active - is the right way. So far since xmas ive lost a steady 2 pounds a week. I have swapped choc bars for nuts and berries when I feel the need to snack, cut down on processed foods inc bread. I drink more water and cut caffeine down by drinking herbal teas etc. Ive noticed my skin is clearer as well as the weight loss.

I have done the couch 2 5k program and keep up with what exercise I can but I know just walking more often will help tremendously (just dont pig out on the wrong stuff when work up an appetite!! )

A lot of this is a matter of retraining your habits and telling yourself you can do it for the better.

I hope ive helped rather than waffled on!! . Just find what youre comfy with.

best of luck and let us know how you get on.

ali :-)

Hello there..... I'm 63, so just a tinsy winsy bit older than you (!!!) but I know the feeling. "Eating healthier is a VERY good way of looking at it. I've tried a zillion "diets" over the years and none have really helped much. I've always put most of the weight back on after. I'm 165cm (5'6'') and I'm presently about 72Kg (11st 4lb ish?), although I don't have the nerve to weigh myself 'cos the truth hurts! If you work in an office try to keep away from the desk where they put all the sweets & doughnuts. That's a real killer for me. Someone else on another thread has mentioned to not putting biscuits on your shopping list which is also a good one. If you have to do your own shopping then get psyched up before going into the nice shiny supermarket with all those nice biscuits and ice-cream and chocolates (stops typing to wipe drool from keyboard)......

well doll, I am old and not sure how many stone I weigh (245 lbs) so I am obese not overweight, however, I would love to help out. what do you want to know? I have tried all diets and failed at all diets and use this forum to help me lose some weight. I have lost 3 pounds since I came back in 2 weeks ago and I am ecstatic. my name is Katy and I recommend lots of veggies and water and lean meats and grains and fruit. the more you eat, the better your metabolism is I hear. at least that is the way it works for me. I realize that 3 pounds in 2 weeks sounds slow, but I do know that the slower you lose it, the longer you keep it off. I tried crash diets and lost weight but gained the weight back as well as more weight. I have also gotten advice about changing one bad habit at a time so at this point I am trying to cut out as much sugar as I can. check out the welcome newbies pinned post to get a really good start, and message me anytime you need a boost to your ego! that is my speciality.
