I bought a calorie counting book, but more seriously I have started to look at packets and the calories in a portion. What is a portion or serving? By the reckoning on the packets I have been serving myself up far too much food for far too long. for example I must have been having 70-80grams of all bran for breakfast when a serving is just 40grams,- get the idea. I am becoming more thoughtful and honest as to what I am consuming. I guess I have lost about 7lbs over the last two weeks, I can tell but no comments received by colleagues just yet. This weekend I celebrate another step towards 50, I may have a day off. I don't feel I am on a diet just a re-education plan. Unfortunately I tore my calf muscle recently so my exercise is down, but with a period of rest I will be back playing badminton and walking my boarder collie.

Your are doing brilliantly well. Yes portion control is a big factor. Good luck and hope you canstart exercising fully again.

I also had a big shock realising what a normal portion should be. I knew in the back of my mind that that my portions were too big, but I really had no idea quite how oversized they were (often double what the packet said).
Thank you for your comments, very encouraging, since it is Friday I have allowed myself a bottle of beer with my dinner.
