The first thing to remember is that it took time to put on the weight and it's going to take time to get it off. If you are going to count calories, make sure that you do not go too low. Also try to make sure that you are eating the most nutrutious calories: good amounts of protein and vegetables, and other high fibre food. Try to avoid sugary foods and drink.

Hi, 12 stone may sound daunting, but break it up into small challenges so its not so over whelming. I've lost 3 st 5lb and have 6lb to go to my final target. I set myself little challenges that were achievable that not only kept me motivated, but made me feel good when I achieved them. I also use a journal and read healthy living mags, not diet mags. I never told myself I was on a diet, I was making life long healthy living choices. Also exercise as much as you can. Good luck
