I'm at a point where I think I just need to start taking better care of myself. Ive been slowly gaining weight for the past four years. In the past few months, that has really sped up. Its time for a change. But I think that besides wanting to stop and reverse this cycle of putting on weight, I just need to take better care of myself. Even in the little things, like remembering to floss every day. I struggle with committing to my goals... Any advice is welcome!

I think commitment or motivation comes out of a) knowing what you're aiming for and b) believing that you can do it. For a), think through what you have to gain from losing weight and having a healthier lifestyle, short term and long term - how would you see yourself, what would you do that you don't do now etc. For b), that's about having faith in yourself, and a little faith can get you started; that and the ideas and knowledge and support that you can get on this forum, and the amazing examples of success that you'll find here. There's a Happiness Celebration thread you might like to check out.

Take your time to follow the link they give you and find your way around the forum, then make some decisions about what changes you'd like to make, and get involved with the forum as much as possible, for maximum benefit.

Oh my goodness. What a simple and powerful thing - believing in myself. I'm excited to see what I can accomplish with a little faith and this new support system. I haven't though in depth regarding all the benefits of choosing a healthier lifestyle. I will make sure to spend time doing so soon.

You'll find the bits you want to dip into. I find the weekly weigh-in great - you get to "meet" the same people each week and support each other through the ups and downs. Sunday's weigh-in opens in the morning. Maybe I'll see you there
Hi bethany6473 I found the NHS 12 week weight loss plan really good since it did not just focus on diet, but encouraged me to get into regular exercise, but also provided useful tips for making small changes and how to manage various challenges- eating out, snacking, alcohol etc. You will get a lot of support and advice to deal with issues such as snacking etc, some may work for you and some may not but its good to try different things to see what works for you.
