Well, I finally got down to a reasonable weight through Calorie reduction combined with daily exercise. And just to prove a point to myself and others I cycled into work and back. That’s a 40 mile round trip.
BTW I’m 55 years old next month.

Well done -that's impressive, and proof that it works if you stick at it. I hope I can do as well as that.....
Congratulations!
Well done, what weight did you start from? and what weight did you achieve? any good tips ?
I started at 99.7kg weighed on the 2nd Jan 2013. At around 100kg or 16st that's the switch or the trigger to do something.
I have just one main rule - "go to the gym every day". It has to be this otherwise I start to skip days and I end up not doing any exercise at all. Daily gym weight-ins then make me monitor my food intake.
Search the Web, but watch out for the "bogus" weight loss schemes! I got inspiration and information from psychetruth.net/ and sites like this one.
Fresh fruit and veg work well, I've cut out ALL processed food (and alcohol). I did a lot of Calorie monitoring when I started and found the best level to lose 1.5kg/week; this eventually drops to 1lb/week towards the end.
After 208 days I weighed in at 74.5kg with a BMI less than 25 and my waist has gone from ~46in to 35.5in.
Hope this helps.
My motto :- "Giving up is not an option".
Well done, this is so inspirational. Today is the day I have said I am starting, I am cutting out alcohol as I think that is the killer but I got up late so was already thinking 'have I got time for the gym?' but reading this the answer is yes.
Congratulations and good luck with maintenance.
Hi johnsonfamily38,
Well done!
My guess is you're finding your new slimmer and lighter body so much better to be in - I know I do mine.
And I'd also guess that, like me, you're going to be very determined to stay at your new weight and not go back up again.
Good luck with the maintenance regime.
