I am here more for suport in trying to lose weight. I am 31 I weight in 107 kgs and I am 176 cm tall. Last week I started a new plan in losing weight and it seems to show some results. Basically I stopped eating proper food and got myself some meal replacement powder. It contains everything you need to survive. Or at least this is what they say. With that one I can control the calories better. I'm at around 1000 kcal a day give or take 100. The thing is with me everything needs to be radical. Took out the sugar from the coffee. No more coca cola lucozade and anything with sugar or fizzy. Only the powdery shake. And no shake after 6.i lost 4 kg in 5 days( I presume most of it is water) I enrolled at a local gym. It helps that I have a mate who s a bit of a gym goer as well. For me it all started when I they gave me some safety shoes with laces at work instead of kick off boots. I work in a foundry so not the easyest job to do but it pays the bills. I tryed to tighten the shoe laces. Managed but I was allready tired and that kind of remained in my mind. The fact that I am unable to tie my own shoelaces without getting tyred.i don't know if it s the best thing to do but eating less for me was never an option. If it s healthy what I do I don't know but again McDonald's is not healthy and I still managed to live with it for the last 4 years.

Loosing weight and ups and downs along the road
Hello, Hopeforthebest1, and welcome
There are all sorts of triggers for finally getting round to tackling the extra weight and maybe you'll look back some day and feel thankful for those shoes.
I would like you to think carefully about how you go about this. I'm assuming you don't just want to lose weight but to keep it off, and that isn't going to be a rapid process. Weight lost rapidly is weight that soon finds you again.
It is possible to lose weight, and lose a lot of weight, while eating real food. Truly. There are many members who are proof of that. You may well have to change what you eat but, once you start making wiser choices, you will see progress and you won't have to "starve" yourself. By wiser choices, I mean real, fresh food, home cooked, avoiding processed foods and sweet stuff. And it isn't just the obvious sweet stuff: it's the foods that rapidly turn to sugar in the blood stream i.e. carbohydrates - bread, cereals, potatoes, pasta, rice.
Please watch this video: it's only 12 minutes and it could put you on the right track at this crucial time: you can find the others in the series on YouTube

The thing is I ate a lot of pasta and potatoes. The plan is to keep on those meal replacements for a while and after that start to introduce the proper food. I got to the gym to lift weights and do cardio. The fun bit is that I am not starving. Well first 2 days was a bit wierd. I was at some point thinking about cooked rabbit. I hate eating rabbit. It makes me sick. Now I don't think about food. I don't like the meal replacement but it keeps me fed and I have more energy for some reason. Of course I drink 2 3 liters of water a day now. It s quite hard for me to cook. For example half past 10 in the night I arrive home. Even if I ate I was thinking about food. Couple of days without eating at that hour and now I don't think about it.
Sorry, I missed this as you replied to yourself, rather than to me
The problem is when you return to eating food, all the weight you've lost is likely to pile back on. You're seriously going to need to change what you eat if you want to change the outcome, as that video explains - hope you found it useful and that you'll follow up with the others in the series.
A good way to start would be by putting potatoes and pasta in the past tense
I thought about returning back to food so that s why I choose weight lifting. Now I'm doing cardio as well but if I gain more muscle I ll burn more calories. And of course I need to have outdoor focused hobbyes.
What you eat will always play a much bigger part in weight loss: the saying is, you can't out-run a bad diet, and nor can you out-lift it. But good on you for finding an activity you enjoy. It will increase your feeling of wellbeing, as well as your strength and stamina
Exactly that s the plan. I don't say I'm never going to eat fast food. But not 2 big macs with fries and a large coke. The good bit is that I don't really crave for anything. Sometimes I chew a walnut.
I watched the video. So the mesage is clear. Stop eating things with sugar. I don't eat fat foods usually. So the action plan is to stay on meal replacements for a while I mean one month or so and after that go to decent food. Now in all honesty I'm used with the meal replacements. It got in my routine. I don't say it tastes good cause it does not. But it gets the job done. I just need to get the bad habits out of my life like eating for pleasure not cause I'm hungry.
Hi Hopeforthebest. Welcome to the forum.
It sounds like the shoe lace thing has really upset you and spurred you on to make some changes. There is a lot of support on this forum so I hope that you will join in.
I'm not sure whether many people will be using meal replacement shakes, though Im sure most of us have tried them!
While you are following your shake plan, would it be good for you investigate some of the food choices that are out there? Maybe read the links BridgeGirl has sent and also go over to the daily diary and say hello. Its good to have a strategy for long term weightloss and maintenance.
Hi bluemat. Yes ineeed I'm going to go for some normal food soon but I wanted to break the cycle with the meal replacements. In all honesty they taste horibble especially in the beginning. On the other hand it gives me a sensation of fulfilness and more energy. I'm hitting the gym every day as well and I want my new hobby to be weight lifting. I got some standards when I started. 5 push ups.. 4 squats. I could not do an abdominal exercise at all. The biggest problem for me is that I'm coming from a country where everyone judge s you. I mean me house mates started making fun of me and asked me if I want some baclava. (really sweet Turkish desert). I said let's keep the meal thingy for a month and after that i will introduce proper food. But fresh food not processed. I mean it was a lot of things thst started to worry me. I got a sports hatch and I was thinking of selling it cause it s hard to climb in and out... And I'm 31 not 85. Started to play more and more on the xbox. Not taking the dog out every day. (I have a hound). Basically being lazy.
Updateee. I'm at 97.8 kgs on the scales. And improved my cardio training. From getting tyred by walking on the treadmill now I can jog for 10 mins at 8mph
